Review: Pioneer SE-CX8 earbud and SE-MX9 full-size headphones

Pioneer is no slouch when it comes to audio equipment. The firm is virtually synonymous with car audio whilst its mixers and CD decks are found in clubs the world over. I was excited, therefore, to be reviewing not one, but two sets of the company's...

There's a chunkiness and a ruggedness about the CX8s that is noticeable the moment you unpack them. Coupled with being marketed as having a "superior club sound," there's little doubt that these are aimed at a young, electronic music-focused market....

Pioneer SE-MX9-T review

It's all very well having a bold, bassy sound, but that's not enough to make a stir in this crowded market

Enthusiastic sound Attractively shiny body Solid build Cable connects to either ear cup

Sound outclassed in most areas Make our ears warm after a while Headband needs more cushioning

These cans are targeted at dance music lovers and no doubt that’s where they will find their audience. Enthusiastic and bass heavy (did someone say ‘Beats’?), they have their uses with certain beat-driven music – but simply don’t have the balance,...

Pioneer SE-MX9 review

We're long-time users of headphones that promise "club sound", having adopted the Sennheiser HD25 through its two generations, so when the Pioneer SE-MX9 headphones - promising "superior club sound" at home or on the go - arrived through the door for...

Quality sound, generally premium finish, really comfortable straight out the box, subtle branding, three viable colour options

Mid-range a little pushed, not cheap, red and black cable not suited to copper finish, hinge created a hairline crack

Whether you're after a "club sound" or just good sound, the Pioneer SE-MX9 headphones make a great case to feature on your over-ear shortlist.

Superior Club Sound : Pioneer SE-MX9

Making a change from the numerous wireless headsets now appearing from various manufacturers, Pioneer has released a tethered model.

The Pioneer SE-MX9 is a tethered set of dynamic headphones. Described as providing Superior Club Sound, an environment I must admit to have not visited recently, the SE-MX9 (hardly the most memorable product name) is available in a choice of bright...

Good headphones but NOT conferrable

I find myself using a cheaper more conferrable pair more often than i use this pair of black Pioneer headphones :/

Descent sound nice look feels sturdy

Press your head lots of pressure on your ears cannot wear longer than 2 hours without moderate pain

Very good

Sound is just as good as Beats or Bose, but much better constructed, no cheap plastic! They fold nicely, good for travel. Packaged with two cables. Work well with iPhone as the mic is fairly decent. Airlplane adaptor is included as well. I got them for...

Just a bit too tight for me.

Pioneer SE-MX9-K

This headphone's ear cup rotate flat but don't fold. They are somewhat portable, most likely you have to carry these around your neck. They look fashionable, I wouldn't mind show them off walking around.

These are great bass head headphone. They are very bright sounding as well. The mids are good and very clear, female and male voices sound good. They are great for hip-hop and electronic music. Songs like 2NE1-I'm the Best, Wiz Khalifa-On My Level,...

When I listened to some Yiruma piano songs, I found the piano sounding too harsh. The piano's sounds is too full and the treble notes are too piercing with no airy sound that I enjoyed on Sennheisers ; The comfort is okay, the clamp force isn't too...
