So who should buy a Harman Kardon BDS 800 Home Theater System? Someone looking for a Blu-ray player and speakers or else they'll have to do some creative wiring.

An ultra-stylish Blu-ray system-in-a-box that's light on features but delivers knockout AV performance.
Stylish design and excellent build quality, Superb picture and sound performance, Easy to install and use
Light on features, A little brash with music, No HDMI inputs

A decent medium-sized room system, offering style and some sonic heft, but lacking excitement
Stylish, compact, solid build ; decent spec ; sounds clean, clear and crisp ; impressive scale
No 3D ; no HDMI inputs ; lacks a little control and clarity when pushed
If you want something compact and effective, the BDS 800 is a very stylish bet

The upmarket BDS800 is a well-turned out, all-in-one home cinema system, but is it more style icon than trendsetter?
Design and cosmetic finish ; Good audio and video support from USB ; Extremely easy to use
No network functions beyond BD Live ; No 1080p24 support ; No 3D support

The Harman group cuts quite a dash. With such brands as Infinity, JBL, Lexicon and Mark Levinson on the books, it knows its way around the higher end of the home entertainment market.
Design and cosmetic finish; good audio and video support from USB; extremely easy to use
No network functions beyond BD Live; no 1080p24 support; no 3D support

The Home Theatre in a Box (HTIB) business is dominated by brands that build systems to a price, loading them to overflowing with the latest digital doodads. There is, though, a less frenetic high-end to this market, where simple sophistication is...
Eye-catching design and build quality, ease of use, refined sound quality that favours the mid-range, USB media playback support
Not massively dynamic, despite the armoured build, the unit is rather noisy in operation, no 1080/24 video output, no network streaming or ‘net radio, does not offer auto speaker calibration
The BDS800 is a stylish, rather than innovative, home-cinema system. We’re told Harman Kardon is apparently aiming it at the Bose buyer, and there’s no doubt that one of its key attributes is ease of use; playback options for movies and music couldn’t...

It's far from cheap, but the BDS 800 compensates with excellent sound for a system of its type
