If you're one of those people who don't want to "live with wires and boxes all over my living room," Yamaha's Digital Sound Projector series of single-speaker surround systems may be exactly what you're looking for. Building on the success of earlier...
Single-speaker surround system with 40 1.5-inch "beam" drivers and two 4.25-inch woofers; built-in digital amplifiers, Dolby Digital, DTS, Neural, and proprietary surround processing; eliminates the need for an AV receiver; HDMI connectivity with...
Expensive, lacks the dynamic muscle of an equivalently priced 5.1 channel system; no Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD decoding; no S-Video inputs or outputs; setting up multiple sources is likely to confuse and frustrate most users; most listeners will want to...
The addition of enhanced video connectivity options cements Yamaha's already excellent Digital Sound Projector technology as the go-to choice for single-speaker surround sound.

The YSP-4000 is the newest and top-of-the-line product in this well received line. To say that it has been pushed to its limits in this review is probably an understatement. But did it pass? In my
Single speaker solution is great for the aesthetic and space conscious ; Provides convincing audio envelopment ; Tons of options for pseudo-surround sound ; Essentially a receiver and 5.0 speaker system in one box ; Extremely easy setup
Multi-channel music performance is sub-par ; Pinpoint rear effects can sound muddy and unfocused ; Pricy but you are paying for convenience ; Won't pass 480i over HDMI

One of the elite contenders in the world of soundbars is the Yamaha YSP-4000 Digital Sound Projector. At $1,800, this is a top-of-the-line product with HDMI, XM radio, tons of drivers and much more. If you want the best from the soundbar category - the...
In the market today, its hard to find a better sounding, more flexible sound bar to match your sexy new 1080p flat HDTV ; The YSP-4000 can take the place of an entry-level receiver with itsvideo switching capabilities and well-rounded connection set...

The Yamaha YSP4000 Digital Sound Projector is simplicity personified. For every person that ever said that a 5.1 surround system was too difficult to set up or took up too much space, this product was made for them.
While the YSP4000 didn't have the depth and power of my reference sound system, I thought it performed extremely well. What it might lack in maximum impact and performance it makes up for in design and function

The Yamaha YSP-4000 Digital Sound Projector ($1,799) is one of the simplest solutions this speaker-shy demographic could embrace. One could call the YSP-4000 the ultimate HTiB (Home Theater in a Box) because it contains speakers (or what Yamaha calls...
The optional iPod dock [$199] allows access to the iPod's menu via the on-screen display and is controlled with the YSP-4000 remote. I would have liked to see a more interesting GUI interface but it got the job done. All my playlists were there and I...

Easy to install and did so quickly ; Good sound but not as good as it sounded at a stereo store ; Looks nice
As above, sounds good but not nearly as good as it did at a stereo store ; Surround sound is better if you do not mind running the wires
