Acer Aspire P3 review: a nice enough tablet, but wait for the refresh

The P3 is a well-priced Windows 8 tablet with fast disk speeds, but it would be a more compelling product with Intel's newer processors to help extend battery life.

Keyboard included ; Thin and light for a Core i5 tablet ; Quick bootup, fast SSD speeds ; Runs quietly, doesn't get too hot

Short battery life ; Relatively low-res display, no pen input ; No touchpad or pointing device ; Overall performance is weak compared to other tablets in this class

At $800 with a keyboard included, there are lots of things we can forgive about the P3: its 1,366 x 768 resolution, the lack of an active digitizer for pen input. But we can't shake the feeling that Haswell would have made this a much better tablet. In...

Acer Aspire P3 Review

Acer's Aspire P3 is a nice-looking slate that ships with a keyboard cover. But at $900, it's a hard sell, given similarly priced alternatives have better screens and battery life.

Given the Iconia Tab’s similar design, slightly better components, better and brighter screen, and much longer battery life, it’s hard to argue for the lesser P3, given the two tablets’ prices are so similar, at least as of this writing.

Acer Aspire P3-171-6820

The Acer Aspire P3-171-6820 is an affordable tablet hybrid powered by an Intel Core i5 CPU.

Ten-point touchscreen. Good battery life. Reasonably priced.

Middling performance. Tablet not secure when parked on keyboard. Relatively low-res display.

With the Acer Aspire P3-171-6820 you get a tablet and an Ultrabook in one slim, affordable package. Its 10-point touch-screen is ideal for swiping your way through Windows 8 apps, and you'll never have to worry about reattaching the Bluetooth keyboard...

Core i5 Windows 8 tablet gone generic: Acer Aspire P3 reviewed

Sure, the P3 has about the same horsepower as a Surface Pro...but for a few hundred more, we'd prefer the Surface Pro. Solid but generic, the P3's a tweener.

The ; is a solidly built, full Core i5 Windows 8 tablet with its own keyboard for under $1,000. The lower-res display at least looks crisp.

Generic design, a cheap-feeling keyboard case, last-gen Intel processors.

Yet another Windows 8 Core i5 tablet, the Acer Aspire P3 has only one thing in its favor: it costs a maximum of $899.

Review Acer Aspire P3-171-3322Y2G06as Convertible

Iconia basic. Windows alongside decent computing power packed in

Very good viewing angles; Very bright screen; Grayscale reproduction; Decent performance owing to SSD; Nice feel, stable chassis; Quiet; Decent 5 MP camera; Decent runtimes

Few interfaces, no card reader; Poor keyboard feedback; Keyboard unusable in flight mode; Heavy with keyboard case; High waste heat

The slimmed Core i3 does a good job. A decent system performance is achieved alongside the swift SSD, which can almost compete with expensive ultrabooks.

Acer Aspire P3 Hands On Review

Acer isn't only offering a new notebook hybrid with its Aspire R7, but they're also going to be releasing a new ultra-convertible ultrabook with its Aspire P3 which features an Intel Core i3 or i5 processor and an IPS display. […]

As I said earlier, the Acer Aspire P3 feels more like a tablet within a bluetooth keyboard housing, which isn’t quite what I believe an ultrabook to be. But its main selling point, being an ultra-convertible computer, is something it does well.

Acer Aspire P3 hands-on

From what it looked like, the Acer Aspire R7 seemed like the headliner at Acer's press event today. Quite frankly, though, we were most interested by another convertible style device that's on the complete opposite end of the spectrum. Significantly...

As for the rest of the specs, the Acer Aspire P3 features an Intel Core i3/i5 processor, 2GB/4GB of RAM, 60GB/120GB storage, Intel HD Graphics 4000 GPU, 5,280 mAh battery, 720p front facing camera, 5-megapixel rear camera, 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, 1 USB...

Acer Aspire P3

Pleasing IPS display, decent battery life, sturdy aluminum construction, competitive pricing

Acer's own Iconia W700 offers stronger features for a similar price, slightly lesser performance from Intel Core i5 Y series CPU, sorry no Haswell yet

We like the Acer Aspire P3: it's made with quality materials, the Bluetooth keyboard case is attractive and functional and the tablet has a lovely display. But it's hard to recommend over Acer's own Iconia W700 with a faster CPU, somewhat longer...

Acer Aspire P3 Ultrabook

Acer's Aspire P3 Ultrabook is an 11.6in tablet with a folio-style keyboard case

Solid tablet ; Vibrant screen ; Good performance

Feels a little clumsy with keyboard case attached ; Keyboard case lacks a hole for the rear-facing camera

Acer's Aspire P3 makes for a very good Windows 8 tablet on its own, but the keyboard case that turns it into an Ultrabook could use some refinement.
