Review: Acer Iconia Tab A500 (Android Honeycomb)

Acer's offering in the Android tablet game is plain vanilla -- unspectacular but reliable.

Acer Iconia a500 review

What would you give up to pack more features into an Android tablet? Would you be willing to sacrifice thinness? Accept a little more weight, or a design that's not quite as svelte as another tablet?...

To each his own, though, and the Acer Iconia a500, with its dual-core Tegra 2 processor and Android Honeycomb OS certainly is leaps and bounds better than last year's tablets. And a sub-$400 price tag makes it might attractive compared to the likes of...

Acer Iconia Tab A500: A Tablet With Honeycomb 3.1

Acer's Iconia Tab A500 is considered an underdog in the Android tablet fight. We go over why it still a worthy contender and explain how to get ...

Many people shopping for a netbook or notebook really only need to check email or visit Web sites on the go. If the mobile device for which you're shopping is only meant to get you from one desktop PC to the next, while maintaining some semblance of...

Acer Iconia Tab A500 Android Tablet Review

As a long-time competitor in the desktop and laptop space, Acer recently began competing against other Android tablet manufacturers with the launch of its Acer Iconia Tab A500. This 10.1-inch tablet is the company's first in the new Acer Iconia family...

1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 Dual Core Mobile Processor ; NVIDIA GeForce graphics ; Micro HDMI ; Full-size USB 2.0 port

Adobe Flash isn't preinstalled (Update: It is pushed to tablets via an update available as of 7/8/2011) ; Limited to 720p output via HDMI until an update is released (Update is available as of 7/8/2011)

We're seeing a lot of Android tablets hit the market. What's more, many of these tablets offer similar specifications, including a 10.1-inch screen, dual-core processor, 16GB (or more) of storage, and Wi-Fi capabilities. Some tablets also have 3G or 4G...

Acer Iconia Tab A500 - Iconic Honeycomb

Will the coming of Google Android 3.0 tablets break Apple's strong grip on the tablet market? Perhaps the Acer Iconia Tab A500 can answer that question.

Acer Iconia A500 Android tablet

Acer Iconia A500 review: An Android 'Honeycomb' tablet with USB and HDMI-out ports

Sturdy and well constructed design ; USB and HDMI-out ports ; Android Honeycomb 3.0 OS

A little chunky and heavy ; Screen difficult to see in sunlight

The Acer Iconia A500 is a little on the chunky side, but potential buyers may be happy to make the sacrifice in return for USB and HDMI-out connectivity.

Acer Iconia A500 review

With a smattering of unique features, the Iconia A500 is as good an example of the Android experience as any other

Android works well ; decent media performance ; a bit cheaper than rivals

But it feels cheaper, too ; confusion of apps at times ; a tad glitchy

A solid effort, but better build quality and more AV content would help

Acer Iconia A500

Though it is packed to the rafters with features and options that are unavailable on the competition, the Acer A500 is too heavy to be used as intended.

Solid performance. Loads of connectivity options including USB and HDMI.

Too heavy to hold for long periods. Glossy screen is hard to read outdoors. Average battery life.

With HDMI and USB ports, Acer's A500 is more business friendly than the competition, but these features only add to its weight and ultimately makes this tablet too heavy to use as intended.

Acer Iconia A500

The Iconia is a lot of tablet for your money: the features of a laptop - minus the physical keyboard - on a device that can fit in a satchel.

Contact: acer.co.nz AT A GLANCE Most full-featured tablet we've seen Great as an entertainment device Slightly too thick No 3G models - yet The Iconia only missed out on a top spot because of its lack of 3G support - we hope it's coming!
