Acer Spin 7 review

Buy the Spin 7 if you want the thinnest Windows 10 2-in-1 around – but not if you want the fastest.

Acer Spin 7 review: This convertible laptop isn't flashy or fast, but it does the job.

Acer's Spin 7 convertible laptop isn't flashy or fast, but it does the job.

The Acer Spin 7's a well-designed laptop with a nice touchscreen and sturdy 360-degree hinge, pretty good sound and a smoothly operating keyboard and touchpad.

Its performance doesn't match similarly equipped and priced competitors and there's no stylus support for Windows Ink.

The Acer Spin 7 won't win any awards for performance or features, but its functional design and operation may win your heart.

Acer Spin 7 (SP714-51-M4YD)

The Acer Spin 7 is the thinnest convertible-hybrid laptop on the market, and it is a joy to carry. But its ultra-slim build means battery and benchmark test performance lags rivals.

Thinnest 2-1in currently available. Large touchpad. Fanless processor ensures quiet operation.

Only two USB-C ports. Non-backlit keyboard. Lower-voltage processor is on the slow side. Rivals have significantly longer battery life.

The Spin 7 is equipped with an Intel Core i7-7Y75 processor. It runs at 4.5 watts instead of 15 watts, like the i7-7500U found in the Yoga 910. While that means that a cooling fan isn't necessary, something that results in very quiet operation, it also...

Acer Spin 7 review: underachiever

When you first pick up and open the Acer Spin 7 laptop, you're probably going to be pleasantly surprised. This very thin, well-designed laptop doesn't try to wow you with its design — instead it's...

Handsome design ; Thin, light ; Fanless

Battery life ; Trackpad palm rejection ; No keyboard backlight

Not working up to potential

Acer Spin 7 SP714-51-M09D Convertible Review

Ultra thin, ultra quiet. Acer's 14-inch system with a thickness of just 11 millimeters certainly looks nice. However, the stability reaches its limits, although the maintainability is great in return. The Kaby Lake ULV is no performance miracle, and it...

compact and light tablet format, good application performance, good ClickPad, high contrast, very good colors after calibration, very good maintainability

only Type-C port, display via Acer Type-C Dock, for example, base could be a bit sturdier, thin speaker sound, very bad colors ex-works, weak keyboard, poor webcam quality

It is an ambitious concept, but the devil is in the details. Acer's Spin 7 (without "Aspire") is a new series consisting of ultra-thin 360-degree convertibles. We reviewed the 14-inch model SP714-51-M09D, which had a bit of a shaky start with the Kaby...

Acer Spin 7 (SP714-51) review – ultra-thin and stylish laptop with an amazing display

Good build quality;Touch screen rotating at 360 degrees; The display covers 91% of sRGB/ITU-R BT.709;The panel doesn’t use PWM for regulating screen brightness across all brightness levels;Thin and light for a 14-incher;Decent keyboard and large...

Body surface prone to smudges;Lack of enough input/output ports; Not so affordable price;Relatively short battery life

Acer Spin 7

Acer has completely overhauled the naming scheme for its high-end laptops, replacing the old Aspire brand with new Spin and Swift ranges. The Swift brand takes on conventional thin-and-light Ultrabooks, while the Spin series goes for 2-in-1s with...

Acer Spin 7 review

It's more like a flip than a spin, but by no means a flop

Cozy keyboard ; Classy design ; Two USB-C ports

Trackpad requires too much force ; Poor speaker placement ; Goofy power brick ; Somewhat short battery life

Acer’s first go at crafting the thinnest convertible in the world is held back by the world’s most antiquated trackpad and charger, but it makes up for it with a satisfying keyboard, the ideal amount of USB-C ports and a subtle design that works in its...

Acer Spin 7 preview: Flexible design with a touch of class

The convertible laptop game has gone from strength to strength, with the latest devices sporting slender bodies and discrete hinge mechanisms that make such flip-around screen devices as good-looking as their top-end notebook cousins.
