Acer Swift 5 review: big-screen featherweight

Your back will be thankful for the world's lightest 15-inch laptop.

Unfathomably light for the screen size you get ; Detailed, colorful 1080p display ; Reliable battery life ; Good performance for everyday usage

Soulless design ; No Thunderbolt 3 ; No SD card slot ; Way too much bloatware

But the Swift 5 stands alone in putting a big display that’s perfect for getting work done into a laptop this unfathomably light. It might look boring, be filled to the brim with bloat, and lack Thunderbolt 3, but those quibbles aren’t enough to...

Acer Swift 5

The lightest 15.6-inch laptop the world has ever seen, Acer's 2.2-pound Swift 5 is a design landmark whose portability outweighs its minor imperfections.

Unbelievably light for its screen size. Sunny 1080p screen. Good battery life.

No Thunderbolt 3 port or SD card slot. Screen is reflective. Beaucoup bloatware.

Bottom Line: The lightest 15.6-inch laptop the world has ever seen, Acer's 2.2-pound Swift 5 is a design landmark whose portability outweighs its minor imperfections.

Acer Swift 5 review: A small miracle

The Acer Swift 5 (SF514-54T-76PY) is one of the lightest clamshell laptops ever made, but it compromises performance and battery life to take home that honor.

Lightweight. Like, really lightweight. ; Attractive color scheme and simple design ; Full-size laptop perks, like USB-A ports and a decent keyboard

Mediocre battery life ; Performance doesn't match potential ; Not as thin as some of its peers

It’s a sacrifice I’m fine with, honestly. The Swift 5’s been an excellent traveling companion the past few weeks, a machine I can toss in my bag and simply forget about for hours at a time. Then I pull it out and , a full-sized laptop. It’s a small...

Acer Swift 5 SF514 (i5-8250U, UHD 620) Laptop Review

Lightweight performance mimosa. At just 930 grams (2.05 lbs) the touchscreen-equipped laptop seems to be the perfect business companion. We take a closer look at much more than just Swift's processor and RAM. What are the notebook's inherent...

decent yet slightly too dark touchscreen ; just 930 grams ; 180-degree hinge ; decent color-space coverage ; low power consumption

extreme CPU throttling, slower than its own predecessor ; creaks, noticeable gaps on the lid ; limited port selection, poor placement ; keyboard layout far from ideal ; display too dark and too reflective ; small battery, poor battery life

Evaluating and ranking the Acer Swift 5 has been a real challenge, to say the least. Its very low weight of less than 1 kg (~2.2 lb) is certainly a big plus. However, due to the dark and highly reflective display portability suffered considerably. The...

Acer Swift 5 SF514-51-59AV Notebook Review

Elegant companion. Acer combines the most important elements of a subnotebook and calls the result Swift 5. The refined yet familiar design is particularly impressive.

design ; swipe-style fingerprint scanner ; no throttling under load ; heat development ; quiet operation ; battery runtime

keyboard attracts fingerprints ; keyboard bounces a bit ; slightly uneven brightness distribution ; poor webcam ; speakers

Successful mixture: Acer combines elegant design with sufficient performance, but does not forget the important emissions. We liked the elegant chassis design with the extremely thin bezels in particular. But that's not all: Acer uses solid metal...

Acer Swift 5 review: A decent ultrabook at an affordable price

Given the distinctly MacBook-like look and feel of many Windows ultraportables, we were pleased to see that Acer's new Swift 5 manages to make a more individual design statement -- while still keeping its prices attractively competitive.

Competitive price ; Lightweight, slimline design ; Full HD display (1,920 x 1,080) ; Good battery life

Plastic casing ; Display contrast could be better ; Weak speakers

Acer Swift 5 Review: A Light, Full-Featured Laptop with a Bloatware Problem

The Acer Swift 5: a better-than-average laptop that looks great, offers plenty of ports, and sports a nice 16:10 display. Too much bloatware and poor trackpad.

Review: Acer Swift 5 (SF514-56T-706S) | Looks Like A Luxury Laptop

The Acer Swift 5 looks and behaves like an executive toy. But it costs so little that most people can afford it.

High-resolution screen and fast processor in a cool design at a really nice price.

There are no reasonable grounds for complaint. That would be the mediocre battery life.

The Acer Swift 5 is an exceptionally well-built ultrabook computer at a really sharp price. The processor is the star of the show, but there’s enough graphics, RAM and storage to compete with more upmarket models. And the Swift 5 doesn’t look cheap at...

While not the top option in its class, the Swift 5 is a good choice with few shortcomings.
