Apple MacBook (2015) review

Gawk, but leave your wallet in your pocket: Apple's new MacBook is an engineering marvel and a terrible value.

Apple MacBook ( 2015, space gray, 512GB)

Nor is it the only player in the game. Since the 2015 original , we've seen super-thin laptops such as the upcoming HP Spectre shaving millimeters from previous versions, or tablet hybrids such as the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and Samsung Galaxy TabPro S...

The 12-inch MacBook gets a decent boost to performance and battery life, while keeping the same slim, light premium body. The high-res display and responsive trackpad remain the gold standard. Color options add a fun bit of personalization.

The single USB-C port will continue to be an inconvenience for many. The shallow keyboard isn't ideal for long-form typing. Other super-slim laptops manage to fit in more powerful processors.

With a handful of subtle improvements, the updated 12-inch Apple MacBook is more of a mainstream machine, but remains a few tweaks away from being the best laptop on the market.

12-inch MacBook review

(Shot on location at WeWork. Also available on YouTube) Apple's latest laptop is simply called the MacBook. Actually, I suppose, you're going to see everybody refer to it as "the new...

Incredibly thin ; Beautiful Retina display ; Great keyboard

Processor-intensive tasks are slow ; Laptop gets warm ; Only one port for everything

Apple MacBook (2015)

The 12-inch Apple MacBook is the thinnest, lightest Mac laptop yet, combining the power of OS X with extreme portability and more than 14 hours of battery life.

Incredibly thin. Weighs less than 2 pounds. Excellent battery life in testing. Retina Display. Great-sounding speakers. Available in three colors.

Only one USB-C port, with no adapters included. USB-C is not Thunderbolt-compatible. New keyboard and Force Touch trackpad take some getting used to. Can only be upgraded at initial purchase.

Conclusion The Apple MacBook is certainly an excellent choice if you travel frequently and want to run desktop apps instead of settling for mobile versions. It's lighter and much slimmer than the latest Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch, and its battery lasts...

Review: Apple MacBook

Apple's newest laptop may not make a lot of sense to you at first glance, but it clearly represents the future of computers.

This is about as well as you can design a clamshell PC: I still don't understand how a laptop can be this light. The screen will make every Air owner jealous. If only all laptop chargers were this small

Expensive to the point of being hard to recommend. A little slow when you push it. The battery is just shy of being as worry-free as it wants to be. USB-C isn't yet everywhere

Review: The new 12-inch MacBook is a laptop without an ecosystem

If you value portability over power, and you don't need to physically connect to much, the new MacBook might be for you.

Thin and light, with great battery life ; Beautiful Retina display ; Force Touch trackpad

Weak keyboard ; Single USB-C port for charging and peripherals ; Slow Core M processor

The new MacBook is the future of Apple laptops. The Force Touch trackpad, Retina display, and 2 pound weight make up for the MacBook's weak keyboard and slower performance, but not everyone can live on...

Apple MacBook 2015

The complaints started even before Apple's first new MacBook demo ended. During the March, 2015 press event, observers fretted about the new, slimmer, lighter 12-inch MacBook . "It's underpowered," they said. "The battery life will be short. The new...

The new 12-inch Apple MacBook is amazingly thin and light, has a premium look and feel, and is available in three colors. It offers better battery life than other laptops with Intel's Core M processors, and performance that's as good as or better than...

Its performance and battery life falls short of the MacBook Air and Pro. The new keyboard is shallow and takes some getting used to, and sharing a single port for all accessories as well as the power cord is almost immediately frustrating.

If you can live with its limitations, the new 12-inch MacBook delivers a groundbreaking design that points the way to the next chapter in laptops.

Apple MacBook 12 (Early 2015) 1.1 GHz Review

The art of omission. Sometimes less is more, which is what Apple probably thought when they designed the ultramobile MacBook 12. Besides unnecessary weight, they also removed (almost) all the ports. A radical concept that won't suit everybody – and...

careful build quality and very high stability, extremely low weight as well as compact dimensions, excellent touchpad, bright Retina display with wide viewing angles, good everyday performance, decent battery runtimes, fanless, powerful speakers

only one combined USB and power connector, bad webcam, no maintainability or upgradeability, high price and expensive accessories, only 12 months warranty

We could start to criticize the poor port variety, the lack of expandability or the low 3D performance – certainly points of criticism that are worth noting. You do, however, have to consider the target group for the MacBook and whether these issues...

Apple MacBook (2015) review: Thin and beautiful, but worth the price?

Haven't we been here before? Following the new MacBook's announcement last month, I was immediately taken back to the year 2008, when Apple introduced the first MacBook Air. It was so thin you could stuff it in a manila envelope; it was a neat party...

If the sacrifice of performance is worth the thinner, more modern form factor, than by all means, go ahead and spend the $1,299 on the base model. If you value performance, however, then the new MacBook isn’t for you. This is a first-generation device...
