The OLED Touch Bar in Apple's new MacBook Pro now works with Logic Pro, Photoshop, Spotify and other apps. But is that enough for this pricey upgrade?
The larger version of Apple's MacBook Pro has a big, bold display, a thinner, lighter body, an AMD graphics chip by default and a massive trackpad. The inventive Touch Bar second-screen display saves clicks here and there, and now works with apps like...
Even the base 15-inch model is painfully expensive. The Touch Bar is a fun add-on, but not a necessity, and the move to USB-C ports means potentially carrying a bag full of dongles.
With a slim bezel around its 15-inch screen and a thinner, lighter body, the top-end MacBook Pro packs a real visual punch. But if you miss the traditional HDMI and USB ports, consider the older 2015 model that Apple still sells.

The trend line points toward ever-smaller computers, with premium systems diving below 10mm thick , and screens dipping down to 12.5 inches from the more common 13-inch or larger versions. But sometimes you want a big, bold, laptop with a large screen...

The top-of-the-line 15-inch MacBook Pro is now slimmer and more capable, and comes equipped with Apple's new Touch Bar. It's a laptop with the speed, storage, and size that traveling power users crave. Just get ready to buy some dongles.

The perfect balance? We also review the mainstream configuration of the new MacBook Pro 15. The test model is faster than the entry-level spec thanks to the Core i7-6820HQ and the AMD Radeon Pro 455, but is it worth the additional price?
excellent chassis ; very good display ; huge Trackpad with great precision ; good and quiet cooling ; high WLAN transfer rates ; good speakers
neither USB-A nor HDMI-out ; defective speakers due to Boot Camp ; 2.4 GHz WLAN issue with attached USB-C device ; fans are (slightly) audible while idling ; very expensive – especially the upgrades
The review of the third Apple MacBook Pro 15 configuration actually revealed some surprising results. However, we do not speak about the two faster core components. The processor in our mainstream configuration for $2799 is 100 MHz faster than the base...

Top specification. We have already reviewed the entry-level of the new Apple MacBook Pro 15. Our test sample today is the high-end SKU, and the graphics card AMD Radeon Pro 460 is particularly interesting.
excellent chassis ; very good display ; huge Trackpad with great precision ; quiet and good cooling ; high WLAN transfer rates ; good speakers
neither USB-A nor HDMI-Port ; power adapter limits under extreme workloads ; 2.4 GHz WLAN issue with attached USB-C device ; fans are (slightly) audible while idling ; very expensive
This review update was primarily focused on the performance of the faster components as well as their effects on the emissions and the battery runtime. The dedicated graphics card AMD Radeon Pro 460 left the best impression, because it is about 40%...

Better by a Touch? Apple slims down the MacBook Pro 15 quite radically and reduces the weight to around 1.8 kg with a thickness of just 16 millimeters. The professional notebook, which even gained customers from the 17-inch Pro in the past, is now even...

The new Apple MacBook Pro 15 builds on the advantages of the predecessor and is one of the best devices you can buy right now in some respects. This definitely includes the excellent chassis, where the diet did not affect the quality or the stability....

Apple's new Late 2016 15-inch MacBook Pro is the lightest and thinnest MacBook Pro ever, but unlike the company's earlier ultralight MacBook Air, it packs a fast, quad-core Intel CPU and a dedicated AMD Radeon Pro GPU along with 16GB of high speed RAM...

Glass half full of promise
Luminous display ; Innovative Touch Bar ; Four USB-C ports ; Loud and clear speakers
Touch Bar not fully-realized ; Trackpad feels too big
While Apple's brighter and bolder 15-inch MacBook brings immediate benefits the second you turn it on, it has its quirks and feels like a laptop that will become much more useful down the line.
