Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch (Late 2011)

The Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch gets new hardware and software, including a quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, AMD Radeon GPU, and OS X Lion, while keeping everything that works well, like the thin and stylish unibody design.

Updated quad-core Core i7 processor. Powerful AMD GPU with more dedicated memory. OS X Lion is superb. Improved battery life

Apple MacBook Pro Fall 2011 review: Apple MacBook Pro Fall 2011

Apple MacBook Pro Fall 2011

Incremental updates to the CPU help keep the ; line a step above the now-mainstream MacBook Air. The trackpad and gesture controls are still the best of any current laptop.

Unless you need an optical drive, the MacBook Air may be a better fit for most, and the Pro still lacks things we'd like to see, such as HDMI, Blu-ray, and USB 3.0.

A MacBook Pro is a significant investment, especially when adding in optional upgrades. Cost aside, there's not a better choice (there are, however, some close ties) for an all-around powerhouse that will work in the home, the office, and in between.

Apple MacBook Pro Winter 2011 review: Apple MacBook Pro Winter 2011

Apple MacBook Pro Winter 2011

The CPU updates to the 13-inch ; offer big leaps in performance. The machine has phenomenal battery life, and excellent ergonomics, keyboard, and large, smooth, multitouch trackpad are still among the best available. It also comes with 720p HD Webcam.

Graphics performance is slightly worse than last year's 13-inch Pro. The 13-inch screen resolution is still low compared with the MacBook Air. The Thunderbolt port is an unknown quantity until accessories become available. There are limited upgrade...

The new entry-level $1,199 13-inch MacBook Pro's significant CPU updates and fantastic battery life are nearly as good as what you get in the more expensive $1,499 version.

Apple 15-inch MacBook Pro (Late 2011) Review

The early 2011 MacBook Pro is honestly Apple's best effort to date. Only using quad-core CPUs on the 15 and 17-inch models, and offering an optional Thunderbolt Display that can act as a modern day dock makes this platform, particularly the 15-inch...

Review Apple MacBook Pro 15 Late 2011 (2.4 GHz, 6770M, glare)

More Bang for the Buck. In a Late 2011 Refresh the MacBook Pro 15

Quality of the case; High-quality display; Very good input devices; Very quiet in low load scenarios

Case can get very hot; Down clocked 6770M graphics card; Loud under heavy load; Base configuration: low resolution, glossy display; Few interfaces; Throttling under heavy CPU and GPU load - likely because of an insufficiently dimensioned power adapter

Apple users will only consider laptops from Apple. The entry-level model with 2.2 GHz quad-core CPU and 6750M graphics card might be of particular interest. Furthermore, the smaller 13" model might be a good alternative because of its low price. If you...

Excellent Design and Craftsmanship; Outstandingly Sturdy Case with Nice Feel; Decent Trackpad; Thunderbolt Port Ensures Future Compatibility; Good Weight for its Class; Office and Multimedia Performance; Battery Life and Power Consumption

High Starting Price; Reflective Screen Restricts On-The-Go Use; Short 12-Month Warranty; Few Accessories; Non-Removable Battery

The biggest downside of the more powerful version is the excessively high increase in price. For the better hardware configuration, Apple is currently charging 400 Euro on top of the already very high starting price of 1,749 Euro. Mac users with high...

Because of the Sandy Bridge chipset defect, the release of comparable laptops is lagging. The successors to high-end notebooks like the Sony VAIO VPC-Z13Z9E or HP Envy 15 will make for some good competition once released.

High Starting Price; Reflective Screen Restricts On-The-Go Use; Short 12-Month Warranty; Few Accessories; Non-Removable Battery

Two big considerations make us lean in favor of investing in the matte screen model: First, if you're planning to use the MacBook Pro for several hours every day, consider that glossy screens strain the eyes more. Second, using the laptop on the go,...
