ASUS Zenbook Prime UX31A Touch review: new touchscreen, same solid performance

While Windows 8 inspired plenty of crazy new form factors, it also gave laptop makers a good reason to circle back and tweak their tried-and-true

Bright, responsive touchscreen ; Good performance ; Light, attractive design

Unimpressive battery life ; Price TBA, likely high

We already liked the ASUS Zenbook Prime UX31A, and the addition of a touchscreen only makes this high-end Ultrabook better. Still, it would benefit from longer battery life.

ASUS Zenbook Prime UX31A Ultrabook review: a high-res display, and a much-improved keyboard

ASUS' new UX31A improves upon its already-good Ultrabook with a higher-res IPS screen and Ivy Bridge power, but there's still room for improvement.

Great IPS displaySleek, lightweight designDecent battery life

Wonky touchpadSub-par audio

When ASUS first released the UX31E last fall, we found plenty to like in its striking design, high-quality display and brisk performance. The addition of backlighting and a more comfortable keyboard -- not to mention the step up to Ivy Bridge and Intel...

Asus Zenbook Prime Touch UX31A-BHI5T

With its brilliant, touch-enabled screen, incredibly thin design, and $1,100 price tag, the Asus Zenbook Prime Touch UX31A-BHI5T is the high-end ultrabook to beat.

Remarkably thin and lightweight. Gorgeous 1080p touch display with IPS panel. Very good battery life.

Limited storage space. Port selection is limited.

Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A Review: Ultralight, Pretty, and Capable

The new Asux Zenbook UX31A looks like the old UX31E, with a brushed, bronze-tinted, solid aluminum shell that looks slightly dangerous and angular. The weight remains the same, at 3 pounds and an ounce. But our test model arrived with a gorgeous, 1080p...

Superb IPS Full HD display ; Extremely thin and light given its performance

Only two USB ports, though they're 3.0 capable ; Keyboard is a bit slippery

The new Zenbook offers a superb IPS display and solid performance in an ultralight, slick package.

ASUS ZENBOOK Prime UX31A-DB71

The 13-inch Asus Zenbook UX32VD comes alluringly close to being an ultrabook without compromises. For $1,299 it includes an Intel Core i7 CPU, a full HD 1,920x1,080-pixel-resolution display, and a discrete Nvida 620M GPU. Most laptops of a similar...

The Asus Zenbook UX32VD has features usually missing from ultrabooks, including a 1080p display and Nvidia GPU.

The UX32VD is expensive, it's thicker and heavier than most ultrabooks, and it has a less-than-stellar touch pad.

With a Core i7 CPU, discrete graphics, and a full HD screen, the Asus Zenbook UX23VD is pretty close to being the ultrabook that has it all, but you'll pay for all those features.

Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A-DB51

With its gorgeous display, portability, and beautiful design, the Asus Zenbook UX31A-DB51 may be the system that convinces everyday users to take the leap into the ultrabook universe.

Gorgeously designed. Third-generation Intel Core i5 processor. Impressive 1080p display with IPS panel. WiDi.

Some bloatware. Battery could be better. 4GB of RAM hampers performance. Limited storage space. Limited port selection.

Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A-R5102F

The Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A-R5102F offers a good looking ultrabook, and ups the ante with a 1080p display and third-generation Intel processor.

Third-generation Intel Core i5-3317u processor. Speedy SSD storage. Stunning 1080p IPS display. Comfortable backlit keyboard. Sleek and sturdy design.

Skimpy port selection. Small storage capacity. Mediocre battery life.

Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A review

Eight months ago, Asus was one of the first to build a credible MacBook Air alternative with a similar look and feel. The 13-inch Asus Zenbook UX31 and 11-inch UX21 delivered extremely rigid...

Solid aluminum build ; Fantastic (optional) 1080p IPS screen ; Included dongles and sleeve

Extremely annoying trackpad ; Weak hinge ; Sharp edges ; On the pricier side

Even a few flaws can cheapen a premium experience

ASUS UX31A: Putting the Ultra in Ultrabooks

When Intel first came up with their Ultrabook initiative last year—and yes, it was basically just a rechristening of ultraportables with the thin factor of a MacBook Air—they also made some bold claims. One of the biggest was that they felt upwards of...

There are two primary viewpoints on the UX31A, and both are valid. On the one hand you’ll find people saying, “$1400 for that!? That’s way too expensive when I could buy a substantially faster system for less money!” This is more or less the refrain...

Asus Zenbook UX31A Review

One of our few concerns with the Zenbook was its edges as when we were working with it, we felt the edges of the palm rests could be a tad smoother. Considering how fantastic of an ultrabook this is, this is a concern we can easily overlook when you...
