Dell Skylake XPS 13 review: The best ultrabook just got better

At first glance, most would dismiss Dell's 2016 refresh of the XPS 13 as minor at best. If you dig into the details though, the upgrade to arguably the best ultrabook of last year is a worthy one.

Tiny footprint ; Supports USB-C charging ; Solidly built ; Oddly placed webcam

Keyboard is a tad small

Dell XPS 13 review: A high-end ultrabook that hits all the marks

The first generation of the Dell XPS 13 was so obvious in its intentions, we gave it the nickname DellBook Air.

The well-made Dell XPS 13 finally combines a current-gen CPU, high-res display, touch screen, and nearly everything else on our wish list.

For the same premium price, you could get a MacBook Pro, ports are limited, and the basic design hasn't changed in a couple of years.

Early versions of the Dell XPS 13 had promise, but lacked must-have features. Over time, the system slowly added a high-res display, then a touch screen, making the new 2014 version an ultrabook that hits nearly all the marks.

Dell XPS 13-MLK

The Dell XPS 13-MLK ultrabook's multimedia prowess, a 1080p screen, and a compact chassis make it a great choice for the power user on the go.

Compact. Comfortable, backlit keyboard. Both USB ports are USB 3.0. Responsive trackpad. Sturdy construction. Large SSD with ample free space. 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi.

A little pricey. No touch screen. Middling battery life. USB 3.0 ports are black.

Dell XPS 13 review

Acer Aspire S3. Asus Zenbook UX31. Lenovo IdeaPad U300S. Toshiba Portege Z835. HP Folio 13. And now, Dell's XPS. Since Intel and its OEM partners set out to beat the Apple MacBook Air on price and match its exceptionally thin, superbly solid build, six...

Attractive, sturdy design ; Comfy chiclet keyboard ; Fairly cool and quiet

Low-res display with terrible viewing angles ; Touchpad jumpy, flaky, and slow ; Sub-par battery life

Dell XPS 13

From its aluminum and carbon fiber case to its edge-to-edge Gorilla Glass screen, the Dell XPS 13 is a sensational compact traveler, but it lacks some ports found on other ultrabooks.

More compact than other ultrabooks. Bright screen. Cushy backlit keyboard. Smart Connect technology is terrific

No Ethernet, VGA, HDMI, or memory-card slot

Dell XPS 13 (Q1 2013) Ultrabook Review: What a Difference 1080p Makes

Around this time last year, we had a chance to take a look at Dell's first ultrabook, the XPS 13 . This was an ultrabook I was for the most part fond of, but one that was clearly suffering from being first generation ultrabook hardware. Ultra...

Dell XPS 13 Review (9350)

Ever since this XPS 13 design came out, it was a hit with a lot of users. After all, what's not to like: a 13.3” display in a body of a 12” laptop seems like a great idea for someone who is looking for a compact chassis, without the traditional...

The Dell XPS 13 (9350) is an excellent laptop. I had a great time using it at CES 2016 and to me, there’s no situation that’s more “real world” than that. I appreciate very much that the chassis is smaller than other 13.3 laptops, and I liked the very...

Review Update Dell XPS 13 L322X Ultrabook

New screen for a familiar system. Dell updates its strong XPS 13

Aluminum alloy, carbon fiber, and Gorilla Glass chassis; Strong, yet lighweight design; Excellent application performance; Beautiful 1080p IPS display; High brightness and contrast; Backlit keyboard; Silent during low workloads

Limited connectivity ports; Very warm even when idling; Noisy during medium to high workloads; Non-removable battery; Lower battery life due to more demanding display; End-user serviceability discouraged; Keyboard may be mushy to some

The XPS 13 has changed little since its inception, but it continues to be a strong contender for users who need a lightweight and no frills Ultrabook. The display alone provides one of the best video playback experiences for a notebook this size.

Review Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook (Late 2012)

An anorexic XPS. Dell's XPS 13 is a 13-inch ultrabook in an 11-inch casing. This is a slim, light and portable notebook which was tested for its suitability in a work environment. ...

Very good casing quality ; Very good system performance ; Good mobility traits ; Low emissions in little load ; Backlit keyboard ; High-capacity and fast solid state drive ; Good battery life

Few interfaces ; Limited upgradeability ; Unusual keyboard ; Loud operating noise in load ; Reflective and viewing angle dependent screen ; Dimmed screen brightness on battery

That Dell needlessly wastes the chance for a better rating with the poor screen which makes it fall behind the competition

Dell XPS 13 Review: An Ultrabook For Business Pros

The XPS 13 ultrabook is a unique hybrid of a premuim consumer laptop and a thin-and-light business notebook. Loaded your choice of either an Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processor and a blazingly fast solid state drive, this little laptop might just give...

Excellent performance for an ultrabook ; Durable Gorilla glass screen ; Thin, stylish design with good battery life.

Glossy Gorilla glass screen creates glare and reflections ; No SD card slot ; Heavier than expected ... but still lightweight ; Stunning design combined with cutting edge performance makes the Dell XPS 13 a compelling option for mobile professionals.
