Dell XPS 17 review (2020): So. Much. Screen.

Dell's largest XPS laptop in years is appealing to anyone who demands the most performance possible and an enormous screen. It's a bit hefty, but still far smaller than 17-inch laptops from years ago.

Gorgeous 17-inch screen ; Most powerful GPU in an XPS ; Great performance all around ; Strong battery life

Heavier than competing big screen laptops ; Could use a lot more ports

Designed for light- to middleweight creatives, this 17-inch laptop is tops when size matters.

Dell XPS 17 (2020) review: heavy hitter

Power by the pound.

Large, excellent screen ; Good keyboard and touchpad ; Compact (for a 17-incher) ; Impressive power

Heavy ; No USB-A ports ; Bad webcam

The Dell XPS 17 is really heavy — about five and a half pounds. But you’re only likely to see life-changing improvements if you’re often doing tasks that take full advantage of the powerful chips: the Core i7-10875H and Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Max Q.

Dell XPS 17 (9700) Review

Roomy 17-inch display with option for 4K-resolution panel ; Relatively compact for a 17-incher ; Comfortable keyboard, gigantic touchpad ; Four Thunderbolt 3 ports and SD card reader ; Excellent audio quality ; Available Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060...

Expensive as configured ; Occasional coil whine ; Even when plugged in, slight power drain during intense gaming sessions ; No USB Type-A ports

The 2020 resurrection of Dell's XPS 17 is a bold, sleek laptop with a gorgeous 17-inch display, long battery life, and serious computing power.

Dell XPS 17 3D review: Dell XPS 17 3D

Dell XPS 17 3D

The ; is a sharp-looking desktop replacement that can handle 3D content, as well as output 3D movies and games to a compatible 3DTV. Highly configurable, the more-expensive options are powerful indeed.

Some wonky stereoscopic 3D issues make this less plug-and-play than a 3DTV, and the 17-inch version of the XPS has not gotten the same slim makeover the 15-inch version has.

Dell's XPS 17 3D is for those who want a powerful media and gaming 17-inch laptop, but in a more aesthetically upscale package than offered by Dell's Alienware brand. The stereoscopic 3D is gimmicky, but a certain breed of PC gamer will love it.

Review: Dell XPS 17 3D

Dell isn't letting the 3-D craze go quietly into the night, and with its XPS 17, there's a case to be made that maybe it...

Great performance and a top-notch 3-D experience. High-end feature bundle, just as you’d expect at this price level. One of the best LCDs on the planet

Gets moderately warm to the touch even under minimal load. Huge fan noise. Questionable keyboard design. Overloaded with Dell shovelware and an unnecessary quick-launch system. Pricey. Awfully heavy

Dell XPS 17 3D: Speedy, and in Stereo

It seems like only yesterday that a Dell XPS 17 last passed through the PCWorld Labs, yet here we have another one. That always seems to happen when a new CPU generation launches. Toss a capable GPU and 3D stereoscopic capability into the new model,...

Stereoscopic 3D capability works well ; Audio quality is transparent and pleasing

GPU a little limited for stereoscopic 3D gaming ; Bulky and heavy

Dell updates the XPS 17 with Intel's spiffy new Sandy Bridge CPU and stereoscopic 3D capability, but the latter is better for 3D Blu-ray than for gaming.

Dell XPS 17

Dell's latest version of its long-running premium XPS 17 notebook features a revamped look, a quad-core CPU, and discrete Nvidia mobile graphics. The net result is a system that offers average performance in WorldBench 6, but surprisingly good gaming...

Superb keyboard offers excellent typing experience ; Even high-end games are playable

Fan noise gets noticeably loud on occasion ; Should have a 1080p display

Dell's latest XPS 17 offers a solid gaming experience coupled with a keyboard and ample storage, but the lack of 1080p resolution seems odd.

Dell XPS 17

The Dell XPS 17 media center laptop packs a huge performance punch and delivers features no other laptop has matched, but it's not perfect—yet.

One of the fastest laptops available. Obscene graphics power. First HD webcam on a laptop. Excellent keyboard. Backlit option. Soft mouse buttons. HDMI and Displayport. Long list of processor options.

Heat is an unfortunate side effect of the graphics chip. No 1080p resolution.

Dell XPS 17 review

The Dell XPS 17 is a true MacBook Pro alternative

Attractive, compact chassis ; Powerful overall and graphics performance ; Great battery life ; Excellent audio ; Beautiful display

Expensive ; Lacks legacy ports

The Dell XPS 17 is a seamless combination of power, endurance and beauty that can handle just about anything you can throw at it.
