Plenty of ports ; Decent graphics performance ; Voluminous audio ; Minimalist styling ; Comfortable keyboard ; Available 4K screen ; Automatic webcam privacy door

Lacks Thunderbolt 3 ; Very heavy ; Poorly constructed touchpad ; Expensive as configured ; USB-C charger not included

Attractive, minimalist styling and an optional 4K display are upsides, but the HP Envy 17 is a merely adequate desktop replacement laptop due to its overly heavy chassis and some quirks with the touchpad design.

The Envy 17's big ol' 4K display is gorgeous but it won't keep you company long

Unacceptable Hinge Failure

After checking numerous owner & tech forums, it appeared many others had the same or similar problems. And, to make it worse, many report that HP routinely blames the user for misuse, and try to charge them for repair even though it's under warranty...

Bottom Line: I definitely would NOT recommend this or any other HP laptop due to a design law in the base-to-display hinge system. The hinges connecting the base to the display failed. Upon investigation, it was obvious the thin, anemic plastic...

11months later, will not turn on

We shall see how awful or great this warranty process is, I will update.. right in the beginning of school, it crashes, kind of throwing a big monkey wrench into my life atm... I'd recommend it,it would have been better if the touch screen worked...

Sound is decent, processor is decent (tbh, buggy at times), display is nice, battery life was adequate

My HP Envy Laptop has been total wiped clean back to manufactures settings 4 times and they have replaced the Mother board twice! I can't store anything exclusively on my laptop because I am waiting for it to crash again. HP will not replace it they...

Washed out screen, heavy, average performance

I must say, for all the HP notebooks I have owned, was most disappointed with this one. I will be returning it. My biggest beef is with the display. The colors are completely washed out. Touch screen works ok though. My other beef is it is quite large...
