HP Envy 17 review

When it comes to selecting our favorite mainstream Windows laptops these days the HP Envy 14 is pretty much at the tippy top of the list. (Hey, we don't

Beautiful, well-built chassis ; Stunning 17.3-inch HD display ; Seriously speedy performance / graphics

Touchpad is still annoying ; Palmrest can get quite toasty ; Heavier than other desktop replacements

HP Envy 17 (2020) Review

Plenty of ports ; Decent graphics performance ; Voluminous audio ; Minimalist styling ; Comfortable keyboard ; Available 4K screen ; Automatic webcam privacy door

Lacks Thunderbolt 3 ; Very heavy ; Poorly constructed touchpad ; Expensive as configured ; USB-C charger not included

Attractive, minimalist styling and an optional 4K display are upsides, but the HP Envy 17 is a merely adequate desktop replacement laptop due to its overly heavy chassis and some quirks with the touchpad design.

HP Envy 17 review: HP Envy 17

HP Envy 17

Slim, attractive design; full-HD 1080p display; USB 3.0 port.

Only one GPU option; clickpad still isn't perfect; short battery life.

Though it's still in the upper ranges of current laptop prices, HP's upscale-feeling Envy 17 offers great hardware at a decent price.

HP Envy 17 Review - PCWorld

The overall look of the latest Envy 17 hews to the understated nature of the product line, with muted grays and light, dimpled swirl details on the case. The packaging is plain and simple as well, and most of the documentation ships on an included 2GB...

Good gaming performance

Fan gets noisy, and surface of the unit can get hot

HP's Envy 17 is a robust, media-centric desktop replacement that's svelte enough to lug around if you need a large screen on the go.

HP Envy 17 (2020) review

The Envy 17's big ol' 4K display is gorgeous but it won't keep you company long

Bright and vivid 4K display ; Comfortable keyboard ; Solid graphics performance ; Minimalist design

Short battery life ; Mediocre CPU performance ; Meh speakers

The HP Envy 17 sports a vivid 4K display and a comfortable keyboard, but the mediocre CPU performance and short battery life give us some pause.

HP Envy 17 Review

The HP Envy 17 gets updated with a refined design and a brilliant 4K display, but with no gaming prowess and no touch support, it may not have everything you want.

Strong general performance; Excellent 4K display; Bang & Olufsen audio

Awkward drop-hinge design; No touch option with 4K resolution; Graphics don't support gaming

HP Envy 17-k104ng Notebook Review

Working class hero? HP advertises its new Envy as the epitome of efficiency. Is this because of the SSD-HDD combination? Because of the GTX GeForce? Or the good sound? We check if work and gaming harmonize well.

Solid base unit, Constant fan control, Matte and bright TN panel, Good sound, Application performance

Keyboard with short travel but usable, Bad webcam, Very loud under maximum load, Weak color presentation, No maintainability

HP updates its premium laptop Envy 17 with a low-voltage processor, SSD-HDD combination and the current GeForce GTX 850M. The result is a nice, well constructed DTR with good speakers and a usable matte Full HD panel. Performance enthusiasts looking...

HP ENVY 17 Review: A Great Entertainment PC

The 17-inch ENVY 17 is the largest notebook in the ENVY line and as such has room for some of the best processors and graphics available at a starting price of around $1,200. We took a closer look at this impressive machine to see if it's worth its...

Great speakers ; Good backlit keyboard ; Lots of ports ; Fair price

Glossy, reflective screen ; Weak screen lid ; Thin aluminum sides ; Loud fan while gaming ; The ENVY 17 is a classy 17-inch multimedia notebook with great speakers, good performance and plenty of extras.

Review HP Envy 17-1190eg Notebook

3D Envy. HP brings in a top notch entertainer with the HP Envy 17

Design; Material; Workmanship; Keyboard; 3D capable; Performance; Usefull pre-installed software (Photoshop Elements); 3D works perfectly in movies (when they are 3D)

System noise (fan permanently active); Consumption; Battery Life; Weight (heavy); Price; 3D isn't intuitive in games

That only a few PDFs were stored on the 2 GB SD memory card. This capacity could have been used to explain a few functions closer with one or two videos (3D).

HP Envy 17 Review

The Envy 17 is the biggest and most powerful model in HP's top-end line of laptops, which are known for their sex appeal and solid build quality. The Envy 17's 11x16.5x1.5-inch chassis is constructed of magnesium alloy with an aluminum wrapping that's...

Handsome and well-built; good performance/portability ratio; Eyefinity

Somewhat limited for games; weak battery life; gets hot under graphics load

But even with its few shortcomings, there’s an awful lot to like about the Envy 17. It’s good-looking, well built, and capable of performing the gamut of desktop functions to varying degrees of satisfaction, while remaining reasonably portable.
