Lacks Thunderbolt 3 ; Very heavy ; Poorly constructed touchpad ; Expensive as configured ; USB-C charger not included

Attractive, minimalist styling and an optional 4K display are upsides, but the HP Envy 17 is a merely adequate desktop replacement laptop due to its overly heavy chassis and some quirks with the touchpad design.

But even with its few shortcomings, there’s an awful lot to like about the Envy 17. It’s good-looking, well built, and capable of performing the gamut of desktop functions to varying degrees of satisfaction, while remaining reasonably portable.
