HP 17 (Ryzen 5 2500U, FHD, IPS, Vega 8) Review

AMD-only. After some mixed reviews of their first version HP has now released a new HP 17 with all-out AMD components and an IPS panel. It does certainly offer some improvements, but does not come without any backlash.

matte IPS panel ; low fan noise ; fast SSD ; fast system performance ; low temperatures under load

disappointing battery life ; blue tint ; fan always on ; short warranty

Overall, the new HP 17 is a step in the right direction. In most aspects the 17-inch large multimedia notebook has improved upon its predecessor. A USB-C port is still missing, however the slightly improved case left a good impression. We liked the new...

HP 17-ca (17-ca0002na) laptop review

  (Rating Hidden)

The HP 17-ca is a 17-inch laptop designed for anybody who wants a large computer but doesn't want to deal with the bulk and clutter of a desktop. If this laptop delivers on its specification sheet, it should be fast enough to handle photo-editing and...

HP Notebook 17 (17-x150na) review

  (Rating Hidden)

A 17-inch laptop with impressive specs in the shape of a current generation i5 processor, 1TB hard drive and dedicated AMD Radeon graphics card, this HP Notebook 17 looks to be a winner. However, as we found out when we took the laptop to our lab, it's...

HP Notebook 17 review

  (Rating Hidden)

While the general trend is towards thinner, lighter laptops and 2-in-1 convertibles, there's always a market for hefty, big-screen workhorses such as the HP Notebook 17-x064na. It's a no-frills laptop, but the Core i3 processor gives you enough power...

Power Machine

No problems noticed so far from it being a refurbished unit.

Blazing fast processor, a great improvement for a couple of my slower-moving programs. State of the art USB 3.0 ports make quick work of backups and similar. 1TB internal hard drive leaves plenty of room for growth

The only con to me about this computer is the intense reflective glare from its monitor, which is present in almost every lighting situation. Fortunately it becomes less noticeable the more the screen is filled with windows of varied color and complexity

First impressions

Picked up a 240GB SSD for the boot/OS drive to improve the performance and remove the bottle neck. Purchased a second drive caddy just like with the previous HP. You must swap out the primary drive for an SSD, to remedy the crippling of the performance...

TouchScreen ; 1920x1080 screen ; i7 4700MQ ; USB3 ; SATA 3

SuperMulti DVD drive ; HD4600 graphics ; Slow 1TB Harddrive ; 12 GB Ram ; Needed to purchase a drive caddy ; Refurbished blemishes and scratches on case, lid, top ; Also seems to have one dead pixel, my first ever

Great deal!

This laptop is HUGE. If you're going for portability, this is not the one for you. I read somewhere that this has an extra drive bay and that was one of the reasons I bought it - I don't know if this is true yet, but if it is, you would be able to add...

This laptop is SOLID. I'm pretty sure I could stand on it and it wouldn't break. It also doesn't seem to get warm at all, even when charging. I haven't tried playing any games on it yet so I don't know what it's like under load. The battery life is...

The trackpad is a little hard to use sometimes. I've only had the thing a day, but it seems like sometimes it doesn't register my touch right away. And the left/right "buttons" (you just press the trackpad down, mac-style) need a LOT of pressure to...
