HP Spectre Folio review: This leather PC means business

The Spectre Folio is unlike any notebook we've seen before. Its leather case looks and feels luxurious, and its convertible hinge is a step above the competition. While there's room for improvement, it's a solid stab at making an entirely new type of...

Leather case looks attractive and feels luxurious ; Convertible hinge is smooth and easy to use ; Excellent keyboard and mouse ; Built-in LTE is truly useful ; Great battery life

Screen could pop open and get damaged as you’re opening it ; Speakers are awful

The idea of a leather computer is crazy, and it's even crazier to think that HP is the company that risked building it. But it turns out the company is onto something. Even if you're not interested in buying the Folio though, it proves to the PC world...

YouTube TV Review

Excellent lineup of sports, news, and entertainment channels ; Impressive viewing features for sports fans ; Robust and easy-to-use DVR features ; Intuitive interface ; Supports three simultaneous streams per account by default ; Excellent add-ons

Expensive ; Lacks most SportsNet and all Bally Sports RSNs

Even as its price continues to rise, YouTube TV remains a top option for cord-cutters thanks to excellent DVR tools, expansive channel variety, and terrific sports features.

HP SPECTRE FOLIO REVIEW: MORE LAPTOPS SHOULD BE WRAPPED IN LEATHER

There'sThere's nothing really quite like HP's new Spectre Folio. For the past few years, the concept of a “laptop” has been constant. There are the traditional, clamshell designs, which are largely derivative of Apple's MacBook Air design. There are...

Unique design and leather finish Flexible hinge Great battery life and solid performance

16:9 screen is dated and cramped for productivity work Speakers are tinny Trackpad is horrible

HP Spectre Folio review: A luxury leather laptop for the style-conscious

A 13-inch leather-clad laptop that would make even Ricardo Montalban jealous, but some of its design tweaks could stand some refinement.

An excellent, premium-looking design with a leather outer shell over a metal frame. Good stylus response and excellent battery life.

The rotating hinge design is too fiddly for its own good and the dual-core processor is a letdown for this price range. The stylus has nowhere to live, except in an awkward leather loop hanging from the side.

HP's inventive two-in-one hybrid is fun to use and show off, but its ambitious hinge design can get in the way at times.

HP Spectre Folio

Swathed in swanky leather and kitted out with a new, power-efficient screen, HP's Spectre Folio is a unique, innovative ultraportable. Alas, its styling and pricing are as over-the-top as its performance is underwhelming.

Stylish, protective leather exterior. LTE connectivity option. Included digital stylus with sturdy holder. Comfortable keyboard. Silent operation. Excellent battery life.

Expensive as configured. Cramped, clumsy touchpad. No fingerprint reader. Heavy for the screen size. Mediocre computing performance. No USB Type-A ports.

Bottom Line: Swathed in swanky leather and kitted out with a new, power-efficient screen, HP's Spectre Folio is a unique, innovative ultraportable. Alas, its styling and pricing are as over-the-top as its performance is underwhelming.

HP Spectre Folio review: This lightweight leather laptop is different in a very good way

HP's leather-wrapped Spectre Folio feels better than any metal or plastic laptop could. Performance is good, and battery life is outstanding.

Leather-wrapped chassis is lightweight, comfortable and durable ; Innovative display design makes it easy to convert from clamshell to tent to tablet modes ; Rarely gets too hot to keep on your lap ; Very long battery life (nearly 13 hours in our tests)

Leather edges get in the way of side ports ; CPU performance suffers in the quest for cooler temperatures

The Spectre Folio’s 13.3-inch touchscreen is bright and crisp with wide viewing angles, but there’s a lot more to it. For one, it uses Intel’s low-power display technology (LDPT), which runs on as little as 1 watt of power (up to 1.5W-1.6W at maximum...

HP Spectre Folio Review: A classy leather 2-in-1 ultrabook

If you've seen one laptop, you've seen them all, or so it seems. HP has challenged that notion with a new take on laptop design, eschewing metal and plastic lids, visible hinges, and port-lined edges for something completely different: a large, premium...

Impressive convertible design ; Gorgeous genuine leather exterior ; Excellent, firm keyboard ; Crisp, responsive touch display ; Long battery life and fast charging support

Audio is loud but lacks bass ; Middling performance ; Only offers USB-C and 3.5mm audio ports

HP Spectre Folio 13 (i5-8500Y) Convertible Review

Timeless leather. HP is putting a new spin on laptop convertibles inspired by antique cameras and wristwatches. The one-of-a-kind leather design is both premium and classic, but its size, weight, and features fall a bit short compared to the sleek and...

unique leather design and convertible form factor feels great to hold ; high quality display; >95 percent sRGB, high contrast ratio ; brighter display than the Spectre x360 13 ; both eSIM and nano-SIM; Gigabit LTE ; completely silent; no electronic...

limited to 5 W CPUs; no Kaby Lake-R or Whiskey Lake-U options ; slow display response times; more noticeable ghosting ; difficult serviceability; no end-user upgrading possible ; both heavier and larger than Spectre x360 13 ; no USB Type-A, HDMI,...

HP has carved itself a comfortable niche with the Spectre Folio. When compared to the Surface Go or Surface Pro 6, the HP convertible offers 4G LTE connectivity, Thunderbolt 3, longer battery life, and a bigger screen that should appeal to business...
