The Cure for the Common Ultrabook

Thin is no longer in. With the IdeaPad Y500 , Lenovo says to hell with the modern laptop diet plan and drops this beast on the table, a 6.4-pound, 37mm-thick slab of plastic and brushed metal. Consider it a curative for users who are finding ultrabooks...

Lenovo IdeaPad Y500

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 is a solid choice for a gaming laptop, offering decent gaming performance and portability, and a modular upgrade system.

Dual-GPU system offers solid gaming performance. Modular UltraBay system lets you reconfigure your system as needed. Lenovo's AccuType keyboard is as good as ever, now with glowing red accents.

Overall performance is good, but not great. Short battery life is short.

There's a lot to love about the Lenovo IdeaPad Y500, from the sleek design and aggressive looks, to the easy customization offered by the UltraBay modular upgrade system. While it does falter in a couple spots—most notably in battery life and general...

Review: Lenovo’s IdeaPad Y500 offers excellent gaming specs for the price

Two graphics cards ; Great price for specs ; Good audio

Very thick chassis ; All-red keyboard is a little hard to navigate ; Display is not a touchscreen

Lenovo's made a solid-performing gaming laptop in a smaller, lighter, cheaper package.

Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 review: A unique gaming laptop at a great price

The current version of the Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 is a laptop that's hard not to like. A chunky, 15-inch Windows 8 machine with some real gaming muscle, sharp design, and a funky red-on-black backlit keyboard, it perfectly embodies the aesthetic Lenovo...

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 offers high-end components, including gamer-level graphics, a swappable accessory bay, and the coolest-looking backlit keyboard I've seen in a long while.

If only the Y500 had a touch screen, which is practically required for the Windows 8 UI, it might be one of my favorite laptops of the year.

For those looking for something more than a feature-light ultrabook, the gamer-friendly Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 is close to brilliant, and several configurations are currently available at a deep discount -- but I can't believe it doesn't have a touch screen.

Review Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 Notebook

Surprise candidate. Lenovo again ventures into the highly competitive gaming sector with the IdeaPad Y500. The UltraBay technology enables the 15-incher to be equipped with an optical drive, a second GPU, an auxiliary fan or another hard disk. A...

Backlit keyboard, Decent sound, Speedy hardware, UltraBay slot, Decent FHD screen, SSD cache, A lot of metal, The UltraBay feature is well-designed

Unfavorable interface and vent positioning, Clattery and unstable touchpad, Reflective screen surface, Quite sensitive casing, Somewhat spongy keyboard, Slim scope of delivery, A matte screen surface and a better touchpad

Lenovo Y500 Gaming Notebook Review: The Best Mobile Gaming Value Around?

While Lenovo hasn't historically been known for its gaming PCs, it's poised to make quite a splash with the latest entry in its IdeaPad line. Owing little to the company's business-oriented roots, the Y500 aims to be all power—moreso than any other...

Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 - An Affordable AND Powerful Gaming Notebook?

Lenovo's IdeaPad Y500 is a 15.6-inch multimedia/desktop replacement notebook with an interchangeable drive bay that lets you switch out your optical drive for a second NVIDIA GTX 650M module for a boost in gaming performance. We find out if it can hold...

Adding swappable second GPU module offers GTX 675M level performance ; Fantastic value ; Good battery life ; Decent audio with built-in subwoofer

Trackpad feels cheap ; Some backlight bleed ; Keyboard a bit mushy ; Swapping of GPU module is necessary to balance battery life vs. gaming performance

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 is the notebook that many people have been waiting a long time for - an affordable multimedia notebook that can transform into a seriously capable gaming machine.
