Lenovo Ideacentre Y900 review

Small, simple, and quick, the Ideacentre Y900 is a great mid-range gaming rig.

One word sums up the Lenovo Y900: competent. It is a solid, mid-sized, mid-priced gaming system that does many things right. It’s handsome, it’s easy to upgrade, it’s quick, and it’s not too expensive.

Lenovo Ideapad Y900-17

The Ideapad Y900-17 is a gaming laptop that plays demanding games at high settings, offers an array of features, and has an attractive display. Too bad it doesn't use more current graphics technology.

Fast performance suited to demanding gaming. Mechanical keyboard with satisfying tactile feel. Sharp IPS display. Plenty of storage and ports, including USB-C.

Expensive given its last-generation graphics hardware. Large and heavy.

Conclusion There's no doubt the Y900 is a powerful, full-featured gaming laptop. It's well made, includes extras like mechanical keys with customizable backlighting, added macro keys, and USB-C, and it boasts components capable of smooth gaming at or...

The Lenovo Ideacentre Y900 hits the virtual-reality sweet spot

The right combination of CPU and GPU for Vive and Oculus, at the right price.

The Lenovo Y900 includes the right processor/graphics card combo for virtual reality, offers easy access to its spacious interior and includes a premium keyboard and mouse.

The huge tower case is bland, with just enough gamer-centric touches to not blend in. No options for high-end features like liquid cooling.

Hitting the sweet spot for price and performance in a VR-ready PC, the Lenovo Ideacentre Y900 is a safe mainstream choice to pair with your HTC Vive or Oculus Rift headset.

Lenovo Ideacentre Y900 ( 4.00GHz 2133MHz 8MB)

The desktops have been less interesting -- similarly well-priced, but not as mainstream-looking, and gaming desktops just naturally appeal to a very small segment of the computer-buying public anyway. At least until now. There's suddenly a renewed...

Lenovo Ideacentre Y900 review:

Lenovo has had a semisecret side business for years, selling decent gaming PCs at reasonable prices. The Lenovo Y-series gaming laptops have always been of interest to me, as they offered excellent value for a very mainstream combination of Core i7...

Lenovo IdeaPad Y900 Review: surprising power in a big package

I've always found it difficult to wrap my head around gaming laptops, and when I first opened the Lenovo IdeaPad Y900 notebook, I didn't think my feelings were going to change. I found myself almost immediately wondering why I would use such a bulky...

Excellent performance for a notebook ; Good looking design that doesn't overdo it ; High-quality, 1080p display

Large in every sense of the word ; Almost too heavy at 10.1 lbs ; Price might be a little too high at $2500

All in all, I think the Lenovo IdeaPad Y900 has swayed me on gaming laptops as much as any one machine can. I like the look, I’m very pleased with the performance, and while I think the price is a little high at $2500, there are definitely other...

Lenovo IdeaPad Y900 17ISK Notebook Review

A souped-up Y700. The higher-end Y900 feels unique with more features and better craftsmanship than its immediately Y700 predecessor. Unfortunately, its chiclet mechanical keyboard, loud pulsating fans, and high starting price leave a lot to be desired.

relatively low surface and core temperatures ; large keys with dedicated Macro keys ; RAID 0 compatibility; 3x storage bays ; unique design; strong build quality ; wide keyboard backlight options ; USB Type-C w/ Thunderbolt 3 ; very loud internal...

disappointing Turbo Mode; high CPU temperature under extreme loads ; keyboard does not offer "true" individually-lit RGB keys ; loud pulsating fan behavior during low loads ; sound reproduction could be more balanced ; no 120 Hz/5 ms or 4K UHD display...

Lenovo is treading on deeper ground with its new Y900 and the $2000+ USD price tag proves it. While design and workmanship are sound, the new mechanical keyboard and Turbo Mode are a mixed bag. The keys feel soft and uneven and some users may not like...
