Review Lenovo IdeaPad Z585 Notebook

Budget all-rounder. Lenovo sends its 15-inch notebook off to the race, this time with the AMD Vision processor and dual GPU. The AMD-only combination seems quite unique, since most competitors rely either on Intel and Nvidia or Intel and AMD.

Easy upgrade, Performance of the hardware, Lots of storage space (HDD), Good stereo speakers, Good touchpad, The good performance of the dual GPU and the stylish case

Average display, Keyboard layout slightly crammed, Mediocre battery life, More space for the keyboard and a matte display for outdoor activities

Lenovo Ideapad Z585 59-347937

The Lenovo Ideapad Z585 59-347937 Laptop runs on Windows 8 (64 bit) OS and has a powerful AMD A8 1.9 Ghz Quad core processor. It has ATI Thames XD HD 7670 Dedicated and AMD Radeon HD 7640G Integrated Graphics processor. This is an ideal laptop for...

Just keeps dying

I wouldn't recommend this model to anyone.

Reasonable performance, ok battery life. Customer service did their best.

Bought this (Ideapad Z585) for my son to use in his CAD class and it died after one semester, so I sent to to Lenovo and they fixed it, then it died again about 30 days later. Again they fixed it again. By this time I had built my son a desk top system...

Hard Drive issues

Barring the hard drive failure, the computer has served its purpose well, though it may be overkill if you are just using it casually. If you want to play some games as well, it will get the job done. It should, for this price.

Runs fast, more than fast enough for a basic user. Lots of memory and handles every task with ease. Can even play some games well.

A fair bit expensive for the stuff it offers. After 1 year, the hard drive failed in magnificent fashion. After doing recovery on it by plugging it into my desktop, only 500 gigs are usable. The computer completely failed to boot until the recovery was...

DO NOT BUY

the laptop is good, but frustrating as this is a common issue, and still is not fixed. I have a great laptop, that charges "sometimes" spending hours removing drivers, and updating software, only to have it happen again with an update makes it difficult.

great laptop

It had everything I was looking for to replace my old Vaio. I started going back to school and needed something for school and moderate gaming, and this is perfect for that.

None that I can find.

Just fine

I bought this knowing the screen was not great, because this is used as a desktop with a lovely 1080p external screen. Speaking of which, when it updated itself to 8.1, the graphics driver broke and got stuck in overscan-compensation mode, which...

It works. The build quality is nice.

The screen is TN 1366x768 nonsense. Why does this still exist in this day and age? Windows 8 is really irritating to deal with. It'd be great if it wasn't tied to Windows; the tablet side would be alright standing alone.

Very good value

I am not disappointed at all.

The unit I received has no default, the built and finish are great. I had to adjust the color settings because at first the overal display was on the 'bleuish' side. I had to also play a lot with the settings of the pointing device, I couldn't stand...

I am not sure that this is my best type of keyboard: I have another laptop (diff. brand) and I think I prefer this other one for typing - but don't get me wrong this is a quality keyboard, it is just my preference ; I play games yes, but I am not a die...

Totally capable as is.

Keyboard is really loud. If that's not your thing, it can probably get really annoying, though it doesn't bother me at all. - Arrow keys are kinda squished in with the rest of the keyboard, but they are marked with raised edges, so they shouldn't be...

Extremely fast ; Fantastic picture quality ; Battery life of 3-4 hours on balanced power plan, upwards of 5 on power saver ; Runs most games with no problems ; Price tag way below what you'd expect for this kind of tech ; Light weight, easily portable...

Touchpad is nigh-unusable ; Speaker quality is average at best ; No number lock indicator, CAPS lock indicator is on the front of the laptop in a hard-to-see place ; Not a con for the machine itself, but I just couldn't cope with Windows 8. However,...
