Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E550 Notebook Review

Two steps forward, one step back. Lenovo replaces a standard CPU with a ULV processor in yet another ThinkPad. Thus, the Edge E550 sacrifices some performance in favor of power consumption and emissions. The inexpensive office laptop nevertheless makes...

Stiff casing build, Docking station port, Fast Wi-Fi, Crisp keyboard, Very low temperature and noise development

Minor flaws in build, Dark, viewing angle dependent screen, Slower than the precursor, 12-month warranty only

Of course, buyers cannot expect the quality of a two to three times more expensive business model from a laptop for just below 550 Euros (~$583) - even if both bear the image-laden ThinkPad label in their name. Lenovo has nevertheless managed to set up...

Lenovo ThinkPad E550 (Core i7, Radeon R7 M265) Notebook Review

Expensive performance boost. For their top-of-the-line model in the E550-series, Lenovo not only integrated a speedy Core i7 CPU, but also a dedicated Radeon GPU. The resulting notebook costs almost 1000 Euro (~$1100). Is that too much money for an...

solid chassis, docking station connector, fast WLAN, responsive keyboard, good performance, low temperature and noise

dark display with low viewing angle stability, slow hard drive, comperatively high price, 12-month warranty

At a purchase price of 1000 Euro (~$1100), the top-model in the E550-series can't be considered entry-level any longer and accordingly, expectations run pretty high. Unfortunately, the ThinkPad can't quite measure up.

Lenovo ThinkPad E550 review

This mobile workstation is powerful, attractive and surprisingly affordable

Smart build quality ; Good performance levels ; Battery life is impressive

No SSD option ; Screen is only a TN panel ; DisplayPort output would have been nice

Great CPU and graphics performance for the money, an adequate display and solid build quality make the E550 surprisingly impressive.

fresh install of win 7 pro?

sounds like this laptop would fulfill 95% of average users needs who aren't gaming or whatever. Definitely upgrade to an SSD, the 350gb samsung evo is a steal and screaming fast.

I wonder if you can do a fresh install of windows 7 pro buy reusing the key labeled on the bottom. upgrade to 16GB of ram and this is one fine computer

windows 7 pro clean, without having to agree with win 8 EULA rights is a maker or a deal breaker

Very nice laptop for this price range!

This is a well-rounded laptop for this price point. I recommend it to anyone who wants a budget laptop for day-to-day tasks. It is not a gaming laptop, but then you probably know that if you are a gamer.

I think these are very solid laptops. I re-sell these often to my business clients, and have never had a complaint about them. They run well, being a 5th Generation Core i5. And, if you want to really give it a boost of speed, throw a solid state drive...

My only complaint with this laptop (and really this applies to every Lenovo laptop in this price range that I have played with) is the touch pad. It is difficult to use. In some cases, it is too sensitive. You go to click by pressing down on the pad,...

Excellent laptop

Laptop has a fantastic feeling keyboard, speedy Core i7, and is very easy to work with. I upgraded from a 14" Ivy-Bridge Dell and I love this machine. Carried over my Samsung 850 Pro SSD and put the 500GB in an adapter that replaced my optical drive...

The only one that I can think of is that it has a 500GB mechanical HDD instead of a SSD, but I can't fault that for the price I paid.

Decent Laptop for the Money but There are Other Options

Entry level business / student laptop at a slightly elevated price due to the Core i7 processor, Radeon Graphics Card, 1080p Display, and the ThinkPad name. Comes with decent hardware but, unless you really need the i7 or the graphics card, you can...

Core i7 Processor 8 GB RAM included Windows 7 Pro included Keyboard has a Solid Feel to it Overall Build Quality is Good Upgradable RAM and HDD Not a lot of Bloatware

Monitor is Washed out, i,e,. not vivid - 1080p is misrepresented Battery Life is Sporadic Fingerprint Reader Doesn't Work after Windows Installed Updates - no way to Repair this Issue as Older Drivers don't fix the Problem. No backlit keyboard Built in...

Excellent Value w/ Solid Build Quality

Overall, this is a very good deal for someone who is interested in a powerful laptop for business or school. I'm a student and I cannot see a better value per feature out there with this level of build quality. I bought this machine when newegg had it...

Value Build Quality Keyboard i7 Processor 8 GB RAM 1080p display Upgradable Windows 7 Pro

Built in speakers are just ok No visual indicator for power status on the outside (charged / charging) No visual indicator for hdd status (nothing to indicate the drive being accessed) No Backlit Keyboard Bottom Access Panel not easy to Remove
