MSI GV62 8RE (i5-8300H, GTX 1060, FHD) Laptop Review

New engine, same body. MSI brings Coffee Lake to their entry-level GV62 line. While the new Intel CPU is a breath of fresh air, it is the only real change to the machine since last year. Buggy system behavior and a cheap plastic case keep the GV62 8RE...

excellent SteelSeries keyboard ; good price ; relatively lightweight ; easy maintenance ; good speakers ; reasonably low external temperatures ; wide selection of ports....

...but no Thunderbolt 3 or USB 3.1 Gen 2 ; lid isn't properly set and clicks against chassis ; case is entirely plastic and feels cheap as a result ; lid easily warps ; component temperatures get hot under stress ; gaming performance falls behind other...

MSI is known for offering multiple choices to match almost any need, but at this point, they may be over-saturating their own marketplace. Case in point: today's review model. The GV62 has little to offer that can't already be found in its other lines....

I've owned this laptop for a year. It is excellent. Runs smoothly and has never crashed. Good for high intensity applications and games. The screen is good in all but the brightest conditions. Cannot fault.
