Review: MSI GX660

For such an eyesore, MSI really packed a lot of punch into this gaming powerhouse.

Quite affordable for a gaming notebook — it’s just too bad the performance isn’t top-notch, too. Dual USB 3.0 ports. Light and long-lived, considering the category

So ugly you’ll keep it in a paper bag. Weak keyboard, with boneheaded numeric keypad layout

Review MSI GX660R Gaming Notebook

Powerful Gamer. MSI is offering the new GX660R, a powerful gaming notebook with a swanky design. The hardware in place here will get the heart of any gamer to pound with excitement. Whether the MSI GX660R doesn't just look good on paper but actually...

MSI GX660R review

Not only a great gaming rig, but one of the first to offer a decent dedicated speaker system and a number of innovative features

Aggressive performance ; New look design ; Dynaudio speakers ; TDE power ; Cooler Booster technology

Portability ; New look won't appeal to all ; Keyboard ; A noisy laptop to use ; Wish the lighting was more customisable

MSI GX660 - Get More Than You Expect

Gaming notebooks are rarely preferred over full-fledged desktop PCs. The primary reason being the cost. It's possible to build a powerful desktop for the same price as an average gaming notebook. Gaming notebooks are large in size and heavy, so you...

At a price of Rs. 59,999 this notebook is an absolute steal. If you’ve been following gaming notebooks, you definitely know that this is probably the cheapest out there. The MSI GT663R costs a whopping Rs. 1,50,000 and for that matter even the ASUS...

MSI GX660R

While we'd be more comfortable with the Asus G73J, if you're a gamer who wants to squeeze the most value for your dollar, you may find your goal in the GX660R.

Phenomenal spec for the price ; Better than usual audio ; Good expansion options

Construction is a little cheap, especially the keyboard ; Audio weirdly attenuates system sounds ; MSI's software still needs polish

Although we can't shake the feeling that MSI has made things a little too cheaply, particularly the keyboard, it has managed to cram power usually reserved for 17-inch laptops into one that's 15 inches. It also adds in a hell of a lot of ports that...

MSI GX660R Laptop Review

Laptops have have had a very hard life as a product. In the early days they were very slow when compared to desktops and hideously expensive. Gradually as time has moved on they've split into two very distinct types.

Great Hardware, but the Sound Drivers are bugged

It would be nice if they included your W7 product key, but there are plenty of free programs out there that will find it for you in the system registry, so no big deal.

Fantastic hardware at a reasonable price, runs even newly released games like a dream ; Sound quality is also very good, with great range of volume (as opposed to my old laptop, which toggled between mute and deafening) ; Capacitive touch buttons along...

The Realtek HD Audio drivers included with the CD are buggy and will cause crashes with some games (e.g. Shogun 2, Magicka). Do yourself a favor and get the standard drivers from Realtek's website ; The touchpad also struck me as a bit unresponsive,...

This laptop is great. The i5 processor has run great without any hiccups. Been playing Rift and SC2 on max and they both run great. More than likely when you have a gaming computer the graphics card is going to go out of date before the processor, for...

A large list ; Video card is awesome, plays all games on high flawlessly ; 7200 RPM HD ; Solid processor ; Great bang for the buck

Short list ; Resolution is only so so. This laptop has an awesome video card I just wish I could turn the resolution up. 1080p would look great with this card
