MSI WT72 Workstation Review

Crackerjack. MSI's GT70 workstation managed seventh place in our workstation ranking. Now we have the successor, MSI's WT72, with a new casing, better screen and optimized performance to test. The following report shows just how well the powerhouse...

Processor performance, Graphics performance, System performance, Permanent load prowess, Temperature development, Screen, Interfaces including USB 3.1, Keyboard, Component accessibility, Price

Noise development, Battery life, Lack of business interfaces, Weight, True Color software / color accuracy, Inconvenient graphics switching

MSI provides a good alternative to the established competition with its W72 workstation. The high and load-stable performance of the 17-inch workstation is particularly compelling. The diversity of interfaces, screen quality, and maintenance options...

MSI WT72 6QM Workstation Review

Behemoth for Professionals. MSI's WT72 now sports updated hardware in the form of a Skylake Xeon processor and a more powerful Nvidia Quadro GPU. The other specs remain largely the same and the workstation thus remains a solid choice for CAD work and...

very good overall and CAD/3D performance, outstanding temperature management, USB Type-C (Thunderbolt 3), easy to maintain with lots of slots and interfaces, decent IPS display

rather expensive, large and heavy, GPU switching requires a reboot, performance heavily throttled on battery, color space coverage could be better, based on gaming platform

With the WT72-6QME workstation, MSI delivers a solid update to an already very decent product. While the performance of the Xeon E3-1505M CPU isn't groundbreaking, it does offer support for ECC RAM, which in turn increases reliability. Speaking of...

MSI WT72 20M

First Look Review: Affordable mobile workstation with big, bright display is well suited to client presentations, but not equipped for demanding design work.

The MSI WT72 also incorporates Intel's high-end i7-4720HQ mobile CPU, which runs at 2.6 GHz with Intel's Turbo Boost technology overclocking the system as high as 3.6 GHz on a single core, which works well for AutoCAD. This CPU competes favorably with...

MSI WT72 6QN review

A gaming laptop with a twist…

Powerful performance ; Quadro M5500 GPU ; Plenty of ports and connectivity options ; Impressive display

A hefty device ; Expensive ; Poor warranty for a workstation ; This laptop's gaming roots are noticeable

This is a compelling VR-ready performer thanks to the powerful Quadro M5500 GPU, and there's plenty to like, but it doesn't come cheap, and the relatively flimsy warranty is a worry.

Great Computer; Needs Larger SSD

I bought this workstation because I am new engineering student that needs a computer capable of running design programs such as AutoCAD and Solidworks. I am also a big MSI fan. So I thought it was a win-win. The computer meets all of the specifications...

-Fast -Lots of data storage -Very reputable brand name

-The boot drive (128GB ssd) is too small - MSI added a second "\" key next to the spacebar, which pushes everything to the right one key. To make up for the space, they put the right arrow key where the left of the of "0" key is on the numpad. I always...

Solid Laptop

Not for a traveler but very good for someone who needs a lot of power but can't be tied to the office.

Purchased for one of my engineers who works out in the field. Yes, it is huge but provides mobile computing with CAD and exceptionally large spreadsheets.

AutoCAD complains that it doesn't contain a certified video card despite MSI saying it's a certified laptop. Not sure who to believe but so far no performance issues.

Consumer review (newegg.com)

For 3 months, all features have performed admirably.

I chose an MSI laptop without SSD. The user rarely turns it off, so boot time isn't an issue. And it appears to be plenty fast without an SSD since there is sufficient ram for most usage. The user doesn't particularly care for the touch of the kbd,...

This was a gift to someone who is not a gamer. For clear font display, video, fast floating calcs in complex spreadsheets, performance is excellent.

Delivery was slower than the 4-7 days indicated. Battery life is very short. A more capable battery would drive up the cost somewhat, so MSI gambles that most users will use such a large laptop plugged in.

Not necessarily a workstation

This is not a business class workstation. It has the unnecessary, and useless features that you would find in a gamers laptop. I don't need three colors of led's on the keyboard to model in SolidWorks. This extra fluff just adds to the number of...

Top of the line components, upgradable, good keyboard feel, and nice screen. Seemed peppy for the little bit of time I spent on it, never installed any software.

Poor quality control. The red LED's on the right keyboard section were stuck on and the CD door required me to tap the case to get it to pop open. Size, this thing very thick. The keyboard is small, like they stuffed a 15" keyboard on a 17" laptop....
