Sony VAIO VGN-A190 (Iss. 21 2004)

Despite a gorgeous screen, the Sony VAIO VGN-A190 needs a boost in hardware, and its proprietary multimedia software, GigaPocket, could use a rev.

Good-looking design. Gorgeous high-resolution screen. Quiet.

Poor performance. GigaPocket software needs an upgrade.

The VGN-A190 has the look, but to get the most from its multimedia offerings, get the Windows MCE 2005 OS instead of GigaPocket.

TV with digital video recorder; external speakers; fast; large, bright, high-resolution screen.

Big and bulky; heavy; screen is particularly reflective; expensive; short battery life.

The VGN-A190, Sony's colossal VAIO mobile workstation, is a high-performance, digital jack-of-all-trades.
