Review: Toshiba Satellite U840W

Credit is due to Toshiba for doing something unique with the Satellite U840W, an ultrabook that sports a screen with a 21:9 aspect ratio.

Unique aspect ratio looks weird, but grows on you quickly. Great performance. Ruggedized design makes for easy toting. Very nice audio quality, courtesy of Harman Kardon speakers

Touchpad misses too many taps. Crummy keyboard. Why no numeric keypad? Loud fan

Review Toshiba Satellite U840T-101 Ultrabook

A bit late. Toshiba's ultrabook with touchscreen had been promised for the second quarter of 2013, but a test product only just reached us. An i5-3337U of the Ivy Bridge generation should ensure enough processing power and is supported by 8 GB of RAM....

High-performance ULV package, full performance even on battery, Tidy workmanship, Backlit keyboard, 8 GB RAM, Touchscreen ..., The performance stats of the ultrabook check out. Both CPU and GPU deliver good performance, even when the device is...

with mediocre swipe features, Display is too dark, Viewing angles are too unstable and cause color inversion too quickly, No Gigabit LAN, Heavy input devices, More light! The display could have been brighter, but the narrow viewing angles and the...

Review Toshiba Satellite U840W 21:9 Ultrabook

Moviebook. Those believing that notebook manufacturers are done innovating are obviously wrong. Toshiba recently rolled out the Satellite U840W - the first Ultrabook with a theater-like 21:9 aspect ratio. Is this a notebook specifically for movie...

high quality chassis ; keyboard backlight ; better overview of display area ; very high sound quality ; good battery life

meager port selection ; small keys ; frustrating touchpad

None. 21:9 notebooks are not yet mass marketed. Closest competition might be high-resolution Ultrabooks featuring the 16:9-format: The Asus UX31A (FHD IPS) and the Samsung 900X3C (HD+)

Toshiba Satellite U840W Review

Ultra-widescreen ultrabook for your entertainment needs.

Full screen cinemascope videos; Split screen multi-tasking; Built-in GPU powerful to play recent games; Light weight and stylish; Backlit keys; harman/kardon speakers are very impressive

Screen is not IPS; Keyboard dents when typing; Niche appeal

It’s a tough choice, and therefore the decision on whether to buy the Toshiba Satellite U840W will depend purely on the type of media you consume. If you’re looking to watch a lot of movie on the go, then the 21:9 ultra-widescreen of the U840W makes...

Toshiba Satellite U840 Review

Toshiba's latest ultrabook offering in India, the Satellite U840 retails for roughly Rs. 53500. It faces some stiff competition from HP (Envy 4) and Samsung (Series 5). What we cannot get around is the fact that while the rivals are offering pretty...

Good performance, Lightweight chassis, Sophisticated looks, Decent battery life

Feels sluggish at times, Build quality does not have the premium feel, No dedicated graphics

This is the Next Toshiba Satellite Ultrabook

At a Toshiba Press event this evening we got a glimpse of the 14” laptop that will be the next Toshiba (USA) Satellite Ultrabook (not high-end Portege brand as the Z835 is in the USA.) At ‘under 4lb' it's not the ultra-light that the Z830/Z835 is but...

Toshiba Satellite U840W (PSU5RA-002001) Ultrabook

Toshiba U840W review: an extra-wide, and very stylish Ultrabook that offers a fantastic multimedia experience

Well built and very stylish ; Provides a great multimedia experience ; Good battery life

Glossy screen ; Keys a little too shallow ; Slow networking

The Toshiba Satellite U840W is designed for multimedia above all else -- it has exceptoinal speakers and its extra-wide screen allows many movies to fit in it perfectly, but it's also very useful for multitasking. We like the build quality and the...

Toshiba Satellite U840 Ultrabook

Toshiba Satellite U840 review: A 14in Ultrabook with 8GB of RAM and a hybrid storage solution

Thin and light ; Decent performer ; USB 3.0, HDMI

Aspects of build could be better ; Screen could be better ; Keyboard could be better ; No Gigabit Ethernet

Toshiba's 14in Ultrabook offers a good mix of light weight, thin design and useful features. It's a good all-round Ultrabook, but it could use a better screen and keyboard, as well as some tweaks to its build quality. It performed decently in our...
