Toshiba Tecra Z40 review

Toshiba's Tecra Z40-A business laptop is light and long-lasting, with an appealing matte magnesium exterior. But its 14-inch screen is a let-down, and you'll have to pay more for solid-state storage. And at $1,429, the price is already pretty high.

There’s just no getting around the fact that business laptops are pricey compared to standard consumer-focused devices. If you don’t need business-focused features like Intel’s vPro remote management and security hardware, the pricier Pro version of...

Toshiba Tecra Z40t-B1420W10

The Toshiba Tecra Z40-B1420 is a solid, if bulky, business laptop with good performance and a long-lasting battery.

Reasonably priced. Responsive touch screen. Good performance and strong battery life in testing.

Heavy and a little slippery. No solid-state drive (SSD). Mouse buttons need to be firmly pressed to work. Some flexing around the touchpad.

Conclusion The Toshiba Tecra Z40-B1420 has a lot going for it—a fast, fifth-generation Intel processor, good multimedia performance, and a long-lasting battery. The exterior isn't quite as durable or solidly built as the Dell Latitude 14 7000 Series...

Toshiba Tecra Z40-A1401 review: Too little for too much

This business laptop's price tag fails to match up to its blah feature set and mediocre performance.

Strong battery life ; Light in weight ; Docking port

Average benchmark performance ; Dim display with resolution of only 1366 by 768 pixels ; Mechanical hard drive

Toshiba doesn’t deliver enough in the way of features or performance to justify this business laptop’s lofty price tag.

Toshiba Tecra Z40-A1401

The Toshiba Tecra Z40-A1401 isn't a bad high-end ultraportable laptop, but for a little more money, you could get a whole lot more.

Interesting security features. Fourth-generation Intel Core i5 leads to faster performance than the other specs might suggest. Comes with both Windows 7 and 8.1.

Low-res screen hampers multitasking. No SSD. Exterior has an unpleasant texture.

The Toshiba Tecra Z40-A1401 does little, if anything, to pass the rest of the high-end ultraportable laptops out there, but if that was its only problem it wouldn't be too hard to recommend. However, with systems like the new 13-inch MacBook Pro, our...

Toshiba Tecra Z40-C-106 Notebook Review

King of battery life. Toshiba's Skylake refresh edition of the Z40 business notebook is particularly convincing us with impressive battery runtimes. In our in-depth review, we check whether the very light and compact, and yet not exactly cheap...

great battery life ; Accupoint as an additional input device ; IPS screen with wide viewing angles and precise colors ; no PWM ; high quality chassis ; many interfaces ; many safety features ; very light and compact ; adequate performance ; cool

Keyboard with low feedback ; Clickpad ; oddly placed fingerprint reader ; performance inconsistently too low in the Cinebench benchmarks

As in the predecessor, there are indeed several points of criticism. The most important are the input devices, which are not entirely suitable for this category. The keyboard features a low feedback and we would have preferred a conventional touchpad...

Toshiba Tecra Z40T-A1410 Notebook Review

Touchscreen Office Notebook. Toshiba hopes this premium Tecra, with a 1080p matte screen and many of the typical amenities of a top-end business notebook, can entice those looking for a touch business computer that's light and long on battery. Does it...

Good port selection, Lightweight construction, Reasonably good battery life, Supportive hinges, Low heat, Quiet under load, 3-year warranty, Matte touch panel

Extremely grainy screen due to anti-glare filter layer, Unremarkable system performance, Throttling under load, Keyboard features soft feedback with medium key travel, Clickpad, Maintenance should be much easier for a business PC, Display lid scratches...

The Toshiba Tecra Z40T-A1410 repeats many of the successes of its lower-grade counterpart, the Tecra Z40-A-147, with lightweight magnesium construction, a solid assortment of ports, reasonably good battery life, low heat, and quiet operation. It also...
