iPod touch gets its first review

Here it is, ladies and gentlemen, the first review (or at least the first we've seen) of the iPod touch, Apple's new iPhone-aping, widescreen media player / WiFi device. If you can't wait until the end of September (the touch is shipping by the ...

Apple iPod Touch (4th generation) review

If you're buying an iPod Touch for someone, this is not the iPod he or she wants. Trust me, people will want to open the box and see a shiny, colorful new fifth-generation iPod Touch . Your loved one will know the difference. The fifth generation has a...

The fourth-generation Apple iPod Touch , winner of CNET's 2011 Editors' Choice Award for portable media players, has been upgraded with new software and a boost in capacity.

The fifth-generation iPod Touch offers a larger screen, faster processor, and superior photo and camcorder quality.

The fourth-gen iPod Touch is Apple's second-best portable media player, with a price that will help you forget about No. 1.

iPod Touch review

In an era of tablets of all shapes and sizes, or smartphones of varying degrees of tablet-approaching vastness, what room is there for a device like the iPod Touch? I'd say "the humble music player," but the Touch is no longer that, nor has been for...

The 2012 fifth-generation iPod Touch has an excellent set of features: better front and back cameras, 1080p video recording, iOS 6, and a 4-inch Retina Display just like on the iPhone 5, in a design even thinner than the iPhone.

The iPhone 5 still beats it on performance. The Touch lacks any phone functions, and there are tablet competitors that beat the $299 Touch on price and screen size.

The latest iPod Touch is the best iPod ever, and as close to a phoneless iPhone 5 as you can get -- but its high price makes it a tough call versus cheaper tablets with larger screens.

Apple iPod touch (2011)

An even-better Apple iPod touch retains its designation as the best portable media player you can buy—and for the price, it should be.

iMessage allows for virtual texting between iOS devices over Wi-Fi. iCloud syncs content between devices wirelessly. Still a top-notch music player. Retina display makes text and images look incredibly sharp. Shoots HD video, takes photos. FaceTime...

Quite expensive. Lousy earbuds. Low-res camera.

Battery Life and Conclusions Apple rates the battery life for the iPod touch at an impressive 40 hours for audio and seven hours for video. We ran two different battery rundown tests. Playing music with Wi-Fi off and Auto-Lock set to one minute, we got...

Review: Apple iPod Touch 32GB

With its beautiful screen and Wi-Fi, the touch subtracts your computer from the song-management equation. Throw in Web browsing and this gizmo may even remove...

Movies are simply delicious on the huge, 480 x 320 screen, and it doesn’t get hot during playback. So feature-packed it’s almost a stand-alone computer

Version 1.x owners have to pay for upgrade to OS 2.1. Battery life could be better, and 8 video playback stops when power dips below 10 percent

Apple iPod Touch Audio/Video

With its latest iteration of the iPod Touch, Apple has added two highly coveted features--external volume controls and a speaker--and lowered prices, too. However, the Touch's physical changes are incremental, and they don't bring the device up to the...

Includes a Web browser and Wi-Fi ; Beautiful design, easy to operate

Expensive

The Touch remains a tremendous and innovative device, with enticing features, unparalleled ease of use, and plenty of expandability through the App Store. As attractive as it is, though, I still believe it has room to improve. New features coupled with...

Apple iPod Touch Flash-Based MP3 Player

The iPod Touch's beautiful design, useful apps, touch screen, and built-in Wi-Fi outweigh minor audio-quality issues.

Includes a Web browser and Wi-Fi ; Beautiful design, easy to operate

Expensive ; Dark videos can be difficult to see

The iPod Touch is beautifully designed and incredibly fun to use. It still suffers from some performance hiccups, but I'd gladly recommend it to anyone looking for a mobile video player, a portable Web browser, or a high-class way to cart around the...

Review: Apple iPod Touch 16GB

Basically an iPhone sans phone, the iPod Touch is without a doubt the best iPod we've seen for both audio and video. The mind-melting elegance...

Thin, elegant design – slightly smaller than an iPhone. Incredibly intuitive and gorgeous multitouch interface for browsing music, videos, photos, the iTunes store or the web. Fantastic six-hour movie playback, with more than 20 hours audio. Ambient...

Transition to the Touch left out some phone-centric iPhone features like the camera and external speakers, but also left out media player-appropriate Bluetooth support as well as WiFi compatible mapping, e-mail and stocks apps. No external volume...

Apple 8GB iPod touch (1G, Late 2007)

Web browsing and YouTube video on an iPod ; Beautiful and intuitive interface ; ITunes Wi-Fi Music Store is fleet over fast Wi-Fi and very convenient ; Extra applications useful

No calendar event editing ; Darkly lit video and photos lack detail ; Incompatible with old video accessories ; No external volume controls or support for remote control

Apple iPod Touch ( first generation, 8GB)

If you find yourself dazzled by the Web, video, and music capabilities of Apple's iPhone but can't stomach the contract commitment, the iPod Touch might be just what you're looking for. Offered in 8GB ($299), 16GB ($399), and 32GB ($499) capacities,...

The Apple iPod Touch has a large, video-worthy screen, a cutting-edge interface, and Wi-Fi Internet, e-mail, and music download capabilities.

The iPod Touch may cost too much for you, depending on your needs. It has a small capacity for a portable video player.

The iPod Touch is a beautiful product, inside and out, but prepare yourself for sticker shock.
