Apple iPod Shuffle 2GB, space gray

For years, my iPod and I were inseparable. No longer tethered to my denim FUBU CD case/purse hybrid and bulky CD player, the sleek, pocket-size Apple MP3 player was the immediately lovable, magical music box I could bring with me anywhere I went.

The Apple iPod Shuffle is affordably priced with a compact design and long-lasting battery. It's both stylish and easily wearable, thanks to its sturdy built-in clip.

Requires a USB sync from a PC or Mac running iTunes. There's no Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Only 2GB of storage. Navigating your music is a bit difficult without a screen. You can't download subscription Apple Music songs.

Apple's most affordable iPod is a cheap, workout-friendly option for listening to music or podcasts, but it shows its age with a reliance on iTunes syncing and lack of wireless support.

Apple iPod Shuffle (2012) review

Apple's iPod Shuffle is small, versatile, colorful, and at $49, it's arguably the least expensive device that Apple sells. For those times when you want an impossibly small way to take music with you, the iPod Shuffle is still the most widely...

The iPod Shuffle includes a sturdy built-in clip; support for playlists, audiobooks, podcasts, Genius Mixes; and a multilingual VoiceOver feature that announces track information, battery status, and menu navigation.

The 2GB capacity can't hold much; there's no headphone remote nor radio; the track controls tend to get pinched when clipping the iPod to your clothes; and the chances of you accidentally running it through the washing machine are quite high.

The Apple iPod Shuffle is an adorable way to take your favorite songs on the go, but sometimes it's too small for its own good.

iPod shuffle 2nd Generation 1GB MP3 Player - Silver

The second-generation Apple miniplayer gets even smaller, and cuts its price by almost half.

Inexpensive, Stylish

Lacks LCD screen, Expensive

The bottom line: I like the small size and versatility of Apple's new iPod Shuffle. In view of the unit's modest dimensions, the lack of a screen seems less deplorable than with the original Shuffle

Apple iPod Shuffle second generation review

Apple iPod Shuffle (second generation, 1GB)

The competitively priced iPod Shuffle has a dead-simple user interface with satisfying tactile controls, and its integrated belt clip provides a handy way to keep track of the player. The Shuffle is available in five, metallic colors, and the package...

The iPod Shuffle has no screen, so there's no way to navigate easily among artists, albums, or playlists. And it only offers so-so sound quality. The player might be too small for some users, and nonstandard USB syncing takes away from its plug-and-go...

If you like your music playback simple and your device nearly invisible, the second-generation iPod Shuffle will suit you well. But absentminded users should steer clear of this easy-to-misplace player.

Apple iPod shuffle, second-generation 1GB

Inexpensive ; Stylish

Lacks LCD screen ; Expensive

Apple's iPod Shuffle offers solid sound quality for the money, so long as you don't need an LCD screen.

Apple iPod shuffle (2nd generation)

The latest iPod shuffle is truly tiny and inexpensive—but still has no screen.

Very good sound quality. Extremely compact and sleek. Seamless integration with iTunes. Built-in clip. Sturdy aluminum casing. Inexpensive.

No screen. Doesn't work with iPod accessories that require a 30-pin dock connector. Charge/sync dock is bulky. No extra features.

The first-generation iPod shuffle, with its pack-of-gum shape, won over big numbers of people because of its tiny size, feather-light weight, ease of use, and low price. If you liked that model, you'll definitely be impressed by the second-generation...

The second-generation iPod shuffle is impressively small, and the built-in clip makes it ideal for working out, running, or just casual listening. Its lack of a screen or any extras like an FM tuneror even support for many iPod accessoriesis countered...
