Archos 104 4GB digital audio player reviewed

Archos is no stranger to the portable audio player market, and while we've known about its 104 for some time now, PCMag has finally given it a good once over in the testing lab. Apparently designed to compete with other miniaturized devices like the...

Archos 104 mini music player (4GB)

The chrome-accented Archos 104 looks chic, and its surfaces are smooth to the touch. The 4GB player, which comes in silver, black, or pink, has a 1-inch hard drive, which you can hear clicking away inside as it operates. At $160 (as of 7/21/06), it...

Low cost ; Stylish design

Sub par audio quality ; Photos looked dark; no video support

Low-cost model looks chic, but it lacks video capabilities and an FM tuner. Photos looked dark on small, 1.5-inch screen.

Archos 104

Archos updates the low end of its MP3 player line with the affordable Archos 104.

Inexpensive. Color screen. Nice playlisting and file-management features. Good sound quality with minor adjustments. Supports WMA-based subscription and download services.

Interface can be slow sometimes. No FM tuner or recording capabilities. Poor battery life.

Archos Gmini 104 review: Archos Gmini 104

Archos Gmini 104

The Archos Gmini 104 is an easy-to-use MP3 player that sounds great and is priced to sell.

Features are not the Gmini 104's strong point, and we can't help noticing that the player is behind the times.

If what you're after is a really basic, simple, and cheap MP3 player, the Gmini 104 is a fine choice. People who want up-to-date technology, however, should look elsewhere.

Archos Gmini 104

If what you're after is a really basic, simple, and cheap MP3 player, the Gmini 104 is a fine choice. People who want up-to-date technology, however, should look elsewhere.

Easy-to-use ; Great sound

Light feature set ; Outdated

All-in all, the Gmini 104 is a decent choice for first-time users looking for a cheap, simple MP3 player. But for most people, we recommend something with more up-to-date technology, such as a Creative Zen V.

Archos - 104

Archos has good pedigree in the MP3 market, so when this apparently Apple Nano-targeted Archos 104 was released, we were hopeful of seeing a worthy rival. Modelled on the Gmini XS 100, the 104 sports a ...

A disappointing entry from Archos, which has produced a good looking, capable player that nonetheless falls behind most rivals in the current market.

Archos 104 digital audio player Reviewed

Archos doesn't have the same level of market penetration as Apple (well, no one does these days), Creative, or Toshiba. In fact, their products are pretty hard to come by here in Vancouver, with only the odd outdated PMP popping up at the local Future...

While there isn’t a paper-based user manual, they do include a fuller instruction “book” in PDF format, stored on the player's 4GB hard drive. In an effort to address a wide range of customers, all documentation is available in a variety of European...

Broke after 1 year of use

As I said it broke after little over a year. I did use it a lot though, I took it back and forth to work almost everyday, in a maintenance environment. So to be fair it probably did get banged around a bit. I put it on to charge one day and forgot...

Cheap, Lots of storage, Easy to use interface, decent battery life. Gets the job done!

Broke after a bit more than a year of use. Not a lot of options as far as features. Makes loud annoying clicking noises. Only chrges via USB (AC adapter sold seperately)
