Archos 704 WiFi Multimedia Player

This gigantic multimedia player may be tough to tote, but it's stunning.

Huge, sharp, bright TFT screen. Video and audio recording capabilities. Wi-Fi-enabled. Excellent sound quality. Highly customizable through plug-ins and onboard settings. Programmable for auto-recording TV.

Huge and heavy. DVR station (sold separately) is essential for recording. No built-in line-in audio jack. No FM tuner. ; Watch the Archos 704 Video Review!

Review: Archos 704 Wi-Fi Personal Multimedia Player

You wouldn't want to jog with this 22-ounce slab o' entertainment, but then again, your iPod doesn't let you check Gmail from the couch. The...

Connects effortlessly to secure wireless networks. Touch-sensitive screen is a revelation in user interface (fingers or a stylus work seamlessly). Lightning fast digital photo transfer. Analog/digital audio outputs. DVR accessory allows for TiVo-like...

Needs 0 in accessories to fully optimize potential. No slot for storing stylus. Web browsing can be sloth-like. Virtual keypad takes practice to get accustomed to. Lacks Bluetooth for wireless stereo connection

Archos 704 WiFi review

Archos 704 WiFi

The Archos 704 WiFi multimedia player features smooth video playback on a bright, reasonably sharp screen. The PVP offers a good viewing angle, and A/V recordings are very high quality. The touch screen is responsive to fingers or a stylus, and the...

The Archos 704 WiFi suffered from audible system noise during testing, and the built-in video support isn't as broad as it should be (additional codecs cost extra). You'll also have to pay extra to get the hardware required to use the recording...

The Archos 704 WiFi multimedia player looks amazing on paper, but the Web browsing isn't quite smooth enough. Still, as a video player it succeeds: the large screen size makes it ideal for planes, trains, and automobiles, though it's too big to be an...

Archos 704 WiFi Portable Multimedia Player

Design and Specs Front and center on the 704 WiFi is a very nice 7-inch widescreen display capable of 800 x 480 resolution. Because of this relatively spacious display, you'd never mistake the 704 WiFi for an iPod, or even and iPhone. It measures...

The aluminum-clad 704 WiFi has a simple and uncluttered physical design. Save for a power button and another to switch between internal LCD and external display output, there are no controls on the unit itself-- everything is handled through a...

Review: Archos 704 WiFi

The Archos 704 WiFi is the latest and most likely final portable media player (PMP) in the French company's Generation 4 series. Sporting a 7-inch high-resolution widescreen display and weighing a hefty 1.38 pounds, it seems to tread rather...

Despite my sentimental affection for it, I think the Archos 704 WiFi is a PMP that won't ever be embraced by the masses. According to all the press and user comments I've read since the unit's release in March, it seems that unless you actually want...

Archos 704 WiFi Media Player

In midst of the media player war, Archos has released their 704 with includes WiFi support and includes a large 7" screen. Among a few of the included features is video support, music listening, web browsing, network sharing, photo viewing and more.

Huge screen ; Decent video playback ; UMS and MTP support ; WiFi support and web browser ; Impressive GUI and touch screen controls ; USB On-The-Go ; Kickstand is useful when watching movies

A lot of accessories and plugins aren’t included that should have been ; Isn’t really portable (in the can’t-put-it-in-your-pocket sense) ; No expandable storage (SD slot, for example) ; The included pouch could have been better ; Opera browser is...

Testing how practical carrying the Archos player was one of my first goals when I started writing this review. I can’t stress how big this thing is, but against my better judgment, I tried to use it day-to-day.

Archos 704 WiFi review

Gone are the complex controls

Excellent Wi-Fi mode ; Great for watching movies ; Nice interface

No stylus slot ; Not actually touchscreen ; Calibration issues

Archos has got it most of the way right here. If it could erase some usability frustrations the 704 would be a real winner
