Review: Archos 605 Wi-Fi GPS Car Holder

The Archos 605 WiFi is a damn fine portable media player. (It received the coveted Best of Test award last year.) Now it's slightly mo'...

Cheaper than a standalone GPS, at least if you already own an Archos 605. High-resolution screen makes maps look mighty purty. Lightning-fast satellite lock

The 605 can’t navigate without the car holder, so you can’t go on walkabout. Doesn’t say street names. Requires you to move to Europe if you want traffic features. You have to manually restart the GPS app every time you power on the 605

Archos Archos 605 WiFi 30GB Portable Media Player

For watching video on the go, the Archos 605 WiFi media player offers a near-perfect combination of usability and portability. The 4.6-inch, 800-by-400-pixel wide-screen LCD is just the right size for close-up viewing on a train or plane, yet it slips...

Big, high-quality touch-screen ; Wireless Internet access

Only 30GB of storage ; TV hookup requires $100 extra

This player features Wi-Fi connectivity and a screen that's big enough to watch video comfortably.

Archos 605 WiFi review

Archos 605 WiFi

With top-notch video resolution, incredible viewing angles, and integrated support for wireless movie downloads, the Archos 605 WiFi is the best of its breed.

Battery life is only average. Many users will need to shell out extra for software and hardware accessories they'll wish were included.

The Archos 605 WiFi portable video player is one of the best mobile distractions money can buy.

Archos 605 WiFi

The new Archos 605 WiFi can do all sorts of things, but it isn't a lot of fun to use.

Great-looking screen. Programmable video recording. Downloadable cable guide. Content Portal offers movie rentals. Sturdy kickstand for optimal viewing. Streams from networked PCs.

Not terribly user-friendly. Not many major improvements over previous model. Wi-Fi no longer included—costs extra. Internet browsing blown away by iPhone. Mysterious organization of music files.

the real improvements that the 605 brings to the table reside in its guts. the icons and screen look sharper and better, though the main screen layout is strikingly similar to past models. icons on the main screen are in two rows, and from the top are:...

Archos 605 WiFi

The Archos 604 has been one of our favorite digital media players since its introduction late last year. Our opinion of the new Archos 605 WiFi—which adds a high-resolution touch screen and wireless networking capabilities—isn't as lofty.

Touch-screen works great; better screen res than old version

Lousy battery life; 10% surcharge for Opera; hazy-looking screen

We’re also not impressed with the 605’s stingy storage capacity (30GB, just like the 604) and Archos’s insistence on using a proprietary USB cable (they tell us this is a necessary evil, but that doesn’t make it any less of a pain in the caboose).

Review: Archos 605 Wifi Portable Media Player.

Last summer, I had the opportunity to review the Archos 604 Wifi, a very nice portable media player. Since that time, Archos has released their fifth generation players, and I now have the opportunity to check out the successor to the 604, the Archos...

When I reviewed the Archos 604, I concluded that it was a good media player. Since that time, Archos has made considerable improvements on the road to releasing their Fifth Generation models. These changes and upgrades, including a more intuitive,...

Archos 605 Wi-Fi Review

The 605 is Archos new fifth generation flagship PMP that crams nearly every feature one could want into a PMP. They have even offered a few different capacities including a flash version with expandable SDHC memory that can add up to 32GB of flash...

No video transcending needed, Solid set of file support, Great screen, Very good video playback and scaling

Outdated and not a user friendly interface, Almost half the functionality requires you to spend more money, Clunky design, Interface can be slow especially on hard drive versions, Must register product to use content portal

The Archos 605 has a fantastic set of features and to this day is one of the more hardcore PMP with nearly all the bells and whistles. However the 605 suffers from a serious usability issue. The tactile navigation buttons on the right take some time...
