In terms of performance this Philips is perfectly adequate, but there are much better choices out there – without even including Apple
Nice looks and solid build ; (mini) HDMI output ; very good software
Lacks audio and video sparkle ; operation isn’t as slick as it could be
Though fine in many ways, the Muse isn’t the best portable media player, even if you take Apple out of the equation

It's larger then your average MP3 player, and there are a few foibles for sure, but we really like this classy design from Philips
Bigger screen than rivals ; extensive file compatibility ; plays iPlayer downloads ; simple, smooth interface ; good performance
Landscape design and button layout won’t be for everyone ; awkward headphone jack connection
A classy entrant from Philips with plenty of appeal – once you get past a few foibles

The Philips GoGear Muse is an exceptionally smart-looking portable music and video player. It has a big, sharp touchscreen display and a beautiful brushed-metal chassis that fits neatly into a pocket.
The Philips GoGear Muse is a stunning piece of engineering that feels bombproof. It’s also multitalented, offering decent-quality audio, video, a radio and voice recording. However, navigation can be frustrating.

This Philips GoGear will impress those who crave for good sound quality but it's hard to fall in love with its touch controls.
Very good sound ; Wide file format support ; 720p HD video playback with HDMI-out
Unresponsive touchscreen ; Sluggish interface ; Works only in landscape mode ; Slightly overpriced
This PMP scores high on sound, build quality and file format support. It plays 720p HD video with HDMI-out option to to let you connect to your HDTV. But, its sluggish touch controls spoiled the whole user experience and you can get a better...

Philips is hoping its Muse can make up for its lack of touchscreen with noise-cancelling nous and video vim
A solid media player with wide format support, but the noise-cancelling and controls disappoint

Apart from it offers FM radio playback and recording function that also allows up to 20 preset programmes. The green specification of being a lead-free soldered product is an added pride for this product.

Don't let the slightly conservative design detract from a very capable device that offers decent value for money.
There is a lot to like about the Muse. Format support is excellent, as is the player's ability to handle video above the screens native resolution. The bundled noise cancelling earphones will hold obvious appeal to anyone who regularly uses their music...
