The HP Envy 4520 all-in-one is the first printer to feature the company's updated Instant Ink smart cartridges that lets you choose between the traditional pay-as-you-go refill and HP's Instant Ink auto-delivery service.

The HP Envy 4520 printer uses the latest ink delivery technologies to prolong cartridge life and potentially save you money through its Instant Ink delivery service. It also scored well in print speed tests and produced high-quality output results.

The printer lacks a memory card reader and an Ethernet port for direct networking. The touch display can also be tricky to use.

HP Envy 4520 Review

Tempting low list price, but high ink prices/inefficient ink use negate any savings

Inexpensive initial cost

Poor text quality, very high operating costs

The Envy prints great photos and is easy to use, but struggles to produce high quality text. Its propensity to quickly burn through expensive ink cartridges means it would be an uneconomical choice in the long run for most users.

Cheap, unreliable and drinks ink

I bought the 4522 version of this printer at Costco. At first I was impressed at its low price and ease of set-up of the wireless connection with my Mac laptop,pad and phone. However that impression quickly faded. The ink tanks emptied quickly. Then...
