Adrienne Maxwell reviews the HD27 from Optoma. This 1080p, 3D-capable single-chip DLP projector has a rated light output of 3,200 lumens and an asking price of just $649.
If you want a big-screen home entertainment setup but have a very limited budget, you'd be hard pressed to find a better choice than Optoma's HD27 DLP projector. For $649 or less, you get a very bright, highly portable 1080p projector with 3D and MHL...

If you thought you had to budget big for a 1080p gaming and movie projector, think again. As 4K (and faux-4K) models take top billing, regular HD models are getting cheaper, and better, than ever.
The Optoma HD27 proves you don’t need to dig deep for a big-screen experience. Just add a large white wall and some popcorn.

Compact and colourful, this is a 100-inch+ crowd pleaser
Compact and easy to set-up ; Excellent Full HD performance ; Vibrant colour fidelity ; Suitable for movies and games
Doesn't do a deep black ; Awful onboard audio system ; Limited motion resolution
The Optoma HD27 represents ridiculously good giant-screen value. Compact and colourful, this is a 100-inch+ crowd pleaser.

Excellent colour accuracy to Rec.709 ; Good brightness and motion ; Excellent 3D performance ; Good image sharpness from the lens ; Excellent build quality ; Good video processing and input lag ; Superb value for money
Some obvious rainbow effect with certain material ; Mediocre black levels and shadow detail ; Noisy even in Eco mode ; No 3D glasses or emitter provided
As an all-in-one home entertainment projector for gaming, big screen sports, movies and 3D the HD27 certainly manages to perform the tasks with a nice degree of quality and accuracy. The fact it can meet the Rec.709 colour standard at the price point...
