Sony VPL-HW55ES Projector
Last year the Sony VPL-HW50ES was my overall favorite projector and the VPL-HW55ES might retain that title. The improvements to lamp life, 3D, and the dynamic iris are impressive. That Sony can also keep it whisper quiet when running in high lamp mode,...

If the Sony VPL-HW55ES fits nicely into your budget, you are due for a real treat. Overall, as I have said earlier, it’s my favorite, so far, in the price range. It’s the brightest projector calibrated, so the one best capable of large screens while...

It might not be 4K, but this new Sony projector is still brilliant
Superlative 2D picture quality ; Good value for such quality ; Runs extremely quietly
Some crosstalk with 3D ; Slightly high input lag for gamers
The other setting to take care with is the Reality Creation system. For while we tended to leave this system on you do need to be careful how high you set its Resolution and Noise Filtering elements. We kept both below 20, as anything higher tended to...

A robust and quiet projector ideal for businesses, classrooms and homes.
Unbelievably quiet ; 3D-enabled ; Stunning design
No automatic focus ; Heavy 3D glasses
If high-quality projection with 3D capabilities are what you're after, you should buy the Sony VPL-HW55ES – a projector so quiet you'll hardly even notice it's running. This device is a one-stop-shop for movie and presentation-viewing excellence.

A seriously capable performer that does nearly everything right
Crisp, clean picture ; Punchy colours ; High levels of detail ; Subtlety ; Nice looks ; Quiet
Lens shift could be smoother
We’re very impressed by this Sony. Its clean, sharp, natural picture is nothing short of stunning.

In a perfect world we'd all be able to set ourselves up with one of Sony's ground-breaking VPL-VW500ES 4K projectors. But most of us don't live in a perfect world, or anything close. Finding the £8,800 necessary for a VPL-VW500ES just isn't an option.
Spectacular 2D picture quality; easy to set up; great value
Crosstalk with 3D unless you greatly reduce brightness; standard 3D system is IR rather than RF; Reality Creation can get noisy if not set carefully

Sony's VPLHW55ES might not have the most glamourous name, but it's capable of beaming a huge image from 40-inches to 300 - is that enough for it to take first prize this week? Hit play to find out in the video above! Sony VPLHW55ES is tagged with Sony...

Steve Withers takes a look at the latest iteration of Sony's entry level home cinema projector and finds out how it stacks up against the competition.
Excellent black levels and dynamic range ; Reference greyscale and colour accuracy ; Impressive video processing ; Excellent 2D and 3D performance ; Extremely quiet in operation
Manual lens controls ; 3D glasses are poor
The Sony HW55 might not differ much from last year's model but it's good to see that Sony is still supporting the lower end of the price range, even in the midst of the manufacturer's 4K assault on the higher end. The HW55 remains a great all-round...

Projector is okay but never received my free replacement lamp.
Consumer review (sony.com)
Have used this projector in a home cinema setting for the last few weeks and it has delivered excellent performance. Fantastic 2D performance and very good in 3D. (Only very minor crosstalk). I decided to use the optional Sony/Xpand 3D Rf transmitter...
