Arcam Solo review

A one-box CD, amp, tuner combination that offers superb performance with the convenience of a single-box micro system – just add a pair of speakers

Smooth, warm and entertaining sound ; fine build and finish ; excellent tuner ; good to use ; iPod connectivity

All things considered, nothing of significance

Great performance and convenience in one good-looking unit

Fed up with home cinema separates cluttering your living room but don't want to lose out on performance? Arcam's one-box marvel could be your saviour.

Arcam Solo

The elegantly understated design comprises a CD player, integrated amplifier and DAB/FM tuner all in a single, compact unit - with optional speakers also available (?400). Build quality is immaculate and only high quality components have been used in...

Build quality; flexible features; ease of use

Arcam Solo

Before going any further, I'd like to make an apology. I'm sorry. Really, awfully sorry. You see, I'm British. And that means I was born with the word "sorry" already forming on my lips. Apologising is a way of life for Brits, part of a dedication to...

"A-hem. Errrm, sorry for interrupting, but if you don't mind awfully, here's some music." It's politeness made audible. Music presented in a manner calculated not to startle the horses. Or servants

Arcam Solo CD receiver

To regular folk this looks like an attractive and sensible bit of hi-fi that is a bit more expensive than the norm, but to those of us in the hi-fi fraternity it?s nothing short of a revelation...

A radical and stylish product that does everything it says on the tin with aplomb and tremendous ease ;

CDs continue to spin when switching to another source, digitizes FM signals

Inside the case is a CD player based on the Arcam CD73 with 24-bit Wolfson DACs and a Colpitts clock that will play both CD-Rs and the less commonly accepted CD-RWs. The amplifier is a 50-watt design with twin toroidal transformers and nine independent...

HARD TO BEAT FOR SIMILAR MONEY

Style and substance.

Pretty much all you need in the box. Good neutral sound for classical, partnered with B&W CM2. FM tone great with external aerial, DAB is well..DAB. Remote IR can be learnt easily by a Pronto for whole system control.

No SPDIF digital in for a music streamer like the Squeezebox. Firmware can crash once in a while. Cost of Ipod rLead unless you can get a deal.

GREAT SOUNDING HIFI IN AN ELEGANT BOX

Firstly its worth decribing what my buying criteria were for a new system. In my student days I had a Marantz CD player, Arcam Alpha amp and Misson speakers. This system has long since gone and in the chaos of family life been replaced by an ipod and a...

Fantastic CD sound, excellent build quality, interconnection with ipod, DAB radio,

rLead is expensive and doesn't work with ipod dock or firewire charger
