Audiolab 8000X7 review

A big, bold and immersive-sounding 7.1 multichannel power amp

Big, bold and immersive sound ; cast-iron build

Short of the audio and video facilities you might expect at this price

Great power amp, but the matching processor needs more features too reach greatness

Audiolab 8000S review

The Audiolab 8000S is still a decent amplifier, but it's no longer the class-leader it once was

Punchy and clear sound ; decent build ; good feature set

It’s not the most involving performer around ; the faithfully old-fashioned remote control

The 8000S is still a decent amplifier, but is no longer the class-leader it once was

Audiolab 8000CD

Just in case you've been out of the hi-fi scene for a few years and missed it, the story with Audiolab is that it was a very successful amplifier brand, taken over and turned into TAG McLaren Audio, which, sadly, failed and sank

Nicely built and smart, Finely judged tonal balance

Detail a little subdued at this price

A good - rather than great - performer, but possessed of its own charm nonetheless

Audiolab 8000CDE

Audiolab has been around for a while and can claim a prestigious hi-fi past, especially during the eighties and nineties. Its position faltered slightly following company restructuring but recent designs have been making a stirring comeback.

Competitive price; build quality; detailed and dynamic performance

Outdated remote; lacks cohesive timing

Audiolab 8000S and 8000CD

If you're old like me and fear The Reaper, you may recall the name Audiolab, but if you're young and mostly none the wiser, you can be forgiven for not having heard of them before. The story goes like this: Audiolab, established in 1983, was bought in...

Together, these components are pretty much the complete package. They performed that rare feat of adding interest to tracks I would usually skip, and could there be a greater compliment to any audio system than that? In effect they're adding to my...
