ONKYO TX-8255

This is an excellent product for the price it can't beat. I use it. For music only. It replaced a much more expensive receiver that got damaged during a move.it sounds better on the same set of speakers

You will spend more buying Onkyo products because this one will make you a believer

Died in days

Great range. Powered 2 175 watt speakers very, very nicely. Loved the clarity. Decent controls and connections

Permanently went into "Voltage Protection mode" after a few days. Had to RMA so I'm out shipping charges and time of ownership. Disappointing since I picked this model specifically for its reliability. Oh well, guess it was my turn to be unlucky

Took a While to Break in

It took quite a while to break it in, it sounded kind of flat on the low ends until it was fully broke in and now it sounds great, almost like a surround sound now. It took about a 100 hours of use to start sounding like it should, so if yours sounds...

Excellent Sound Quality!! 50 Watts per Channel sounds more like 100 Watts per channel. Very solid unit. Probably the best 2-channel stereo you will find, with a frequency response all the way down to 10hz and extremely high 100,000hz, which is an...

No Sub-out but the Polk-Audio PSW505 has high level speaker inputs and that works great for having a powered sub hooked up to it

Superb 2-ch

For the study, I was looking to replace a 30-year-old Onkyo I was sad to see die. I wanted a solid, economical stereo-- nothing fancy but with very clean sound. The old Onkyo had done me right, so I was glad to see they still made a basic 2-ch model. I...

Excellent fm tuner section; drives my smallish bookshelf speakers with clean, spacious sound; plenty of inputs with good, simple switching controls

Excellent Basic Stereo Receiver

This receiver doesn't have a subwoofer output, I didn't list it in the cons section because I was aware of it before I made my purchase. I am not sure if a subwoofer out would be required if you have a decent pair of speakers. I wanted a basic stand...

The sound from this receiver is crisp; I agree with the other reviewer who stated you can hear details never heard before. I was amazed with the clarity of the sound from my CDs. The bass is forceful but not overpowering; I guess this could be...

Very good, except for phono

I bought this when the amp section on my beloved Yamaha CR-800 (circa 1978) finally died. I was tempted to replace it with just a good power amplifier, using the preamp out, but this got good reviews and has all the power I need. Well, the power amp is...

Works great for my purposes.

Works great for me, love the controls and remote, and the price was perfect. If you want a lot of power and high quality sound reproduction, this thing won't disappoint.

My knowledge of audio receivers is only average, I'm more of a PC technician, but I do audio content creation and I needed something to drive my new Polk Audio Monitor 40s. This does a great job, with tons of power and excellent sound quality. I expect...

None. Read specs and capabilities carefully before purchasing, because this unit is not designed for home theater use

exactly what it says it is

This is a good receiver. It is what I wanted, not fancy, not so complicated I have to have an MIT degree to figure out. Nice clean power with crisp sound. Very happy with purchase. Price could have been better, since there are receivers out there with...

Superb Amplifier

The details this amp brings out in my music is unbelievable. Listening to Pink Floyd, Rush, Yes, or some Alan Parsons Project cd's which have always sounded good, I noticed details (voices, background noises, chimes, etc) that weren't there before. For...

As with all Onkyo products, their "lower-end" receivers are better than most other brands' supposedly high-end stuff. This receiver doesn't have a bunch of features (surround sound, etc), but I was looking specifically for a clean, loud stereo...

Good Receiver

I bought this to replace my father's 30 year old Pioneer and it definitely did that and more. It drives my Sony bookshelf speakers just fine and my AKG K240's sound amazing through it. My turntable sounds so much better than it did on my dad's old amp....

Plenty of inputs ; Good remote control

No sub out (but not expected at this price)
