Onkyo TX-NR808 7.2 Networked A/V Receiver Preview

Fourth in Onkyo's refresh to its line up of receivers is the new TX-NR808 networked model, updating the TX-NR807. The TX-NR808 is a 7.2 channel receiver that features a THX Certified Select 2 Plus.

Onkyo TX-NR808

Onkyo is the market leader in AV amplifiers and receivers for good reason. It has, for the last few years at least, crammed its kit with as much tech as it can possibly fit in, whilst keeping prices at very reasonable levels. The end result is a...

An amazing array of features and functionality is supported by, possibly, the most bombastic audio performance ever provided by a sub-£1k AV receiver

At times, its pure aggression can be a tad overbearing - especially if you're trying to settle down to a lightly-paced drama or romcom

Music too is treated with delicacy and brutal assault in equal measures. There isn't a song we've found that hasn't been improved by the 808's handling. Even Jedward's album turns from a turgid, pointless abuse of the human ear into a turgid, pointless...

A bit disappointed

I replaced a Sony surround sound with the Onkyy and put the Sony down in my sound system down stairs and the Sony is still going. Onkyo is aware of the sound board problem and are addressing it fairly so I didn't give it a worse rating. It is a bit of...

Very capable receiver, easy to set up, great sound and video

after about 2.5 years the sound board suddenly quite functioning

Follow up review 2.5 years later.

A lot of the network connectivity issues were taken care of by a software update a while ago, which is good considering I control it through the network a lot. Overall this was a great purchase, and I would buy another Onkyo in a New York Minute.

All things I said in my earlier review 2.5 years ago are still true, though I can now say that iPod connectivity works for iPad 2's as well

The biggest flaw this receiver has is the remote. Slowly over time, the volume up function has failed. I can only get it to work maybe 10% of the time now. Luckily there is a solution for me - Onkyo makes a remote control App for iDevices, so most of...

Quality at a low price

Great receiver at a great price. I owned a 605 before this and was extremely happy with that. Some setup notes - if your home router is setup correctly then you will have no network issues. The pandora functionality is fantastic - music at 128kbps...

MultEQ - a very nice feature ; 135W / Chan ; internet/Pandora Radio

No wifi network card

Sweet A/V Receiver!!!

I think previous reviewer Donnie's loss is my gain. I must have purchased his returned receiver. I took my chances on buying an open box unit, (previously sold and returned and priced at less than half msrp!), and it has turned out to be a great deal...

I replaced an 100w Adcom Stereo PreAmp/Amp with this to make better use of my 50" Panasonic THX certified Plasma TV and Blu-ray player and extra speakers I've accumulated. Audyssey setup is easy and straightforward. Some have complained about on-screen...

Others have mentioned this as well - why doesn't this class of receiver come with a remote that has a backlight button that lights up all the buttons??? Fortunately, this remote does have unique button shapes and after some time, I'm sure I won't have...

Fantastic Upgrade!!!

I purchased this Onkyo at the beginning of December; a week after having purchased a Yamaha Aventage RX-A800 for full price at Best Buy. It was the fourth that I had owned in 15 years and I was excited about the new Aventage series. Unfortunately,...

This receiver has tons of inputs, lots of power, a fantastic UI and on-screen display as well as being easy to set up. The Audyssey MultEQ setup worked beautifully and the sound this machine puts out is both delicate and tremendous at the same time....

No cons whatsoever! I have read all of the other reviews on this site and others about the networking function problems people were having. Fortunately for me, Onkyo released the software update to resolve all of these issues on 11/10, before I bought...

Fantastic Reciever

Even with the "issues", this reciever is well worth the effort. I have read many reviews where others had similar problems and that is how I solved mine. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. I recommend this reciever highly. And I recommend...

This reciever has all of the newest features that are currently on the market alowing me to connect all of my newest "gadgets and gizmos"All of the connectivity options are great and very usefull.Very stylish and all of the varius sound modes etc. are...

It is my considered opion that Onkyo Tech support is a joke!! If you need help, call someone that cares, Onkyo Tech support ain't it!!!Called on a Saturday and after a 45min wait, I left a call back #. 5 days later they called back. Sent several emails...
