Performance

Onkyo TX-SR604

7.1-channel A/V receiver with HDMI switching for two HDMI sources; Audyssey 2EQ automatic calibration is the most advanced autosetup ever offered by Onkyo; XM Satellite Radio-Ready with XM Neural Surround; optional iPod dock.

Won't convert analog video signals to HDMI; no onscreen menus via HDMI; only two HDMI inputs; no phono input.

The affordable Onkyo TX-SR604 offers solid sound and an advanced autosetup system, but you'll need to opt for the step-up model if you want more robust HDMI features.

Onkyo TX-SR604 review

Intro Quick on the heels of the TX-SR674 ($700), Onkyo released the cheaper, step-down TX-SR604 ($500). The two receivers are largely identical on every count but one--the TX-SR674 is capable of upconverting analog signals to HDMI, while the TX-RS604...

Onkyo TX-SR604 black

The onscreen menus offer myriad setup options, yet we never got in so deep that we lost our way. For a receiver as well-endowed with features as the TX-SR604, everything is exactly where it ought to be, except for one thing: the onscreen menus don't...

Onkyo TX-SR604 A/V Receiver

One universal truth regarding consumer electronics is that good things come to those who wait. When new technologies make their debut, sometimes it's best to wait for the dust to settle before parting with any of your hard-earned money. Spectators...

My only complaints were in the user interface department. Specifically, I wasn't crazy about the remote's button layout and that it wasn't backlit. Also, I prefer the ability to assign a device's component video and digital audio inputs from a single...

Onkyo TX-SR604E review

Onkyo cranks up the value an extra notch

Excellent value

No HDMI up-conversion

Scores very highly indeed on value for money - it's up to you to decide how important that is

The TX-SR604 also sounded good on music. The HT-S907 did a great job on Led Zeppelin's eponymous DVD; the huge surround mix filled our home theatre, and the front three speakers' soundstage had a nice sense of depth. Jimmy Page's raw guitar distortion...

Good

I have this in silver and it looks great. Its a good quality amplifier for my high end speakers run well on. all-in-all worth the money!

Plenty of inputs, looks real nice, and runs my JBL and B&W speakers with out trouble. The second, less confusing, remote is good as well.

The auto tuning mike was a little out and an extra HDMI input wouldn't hurt. As well as an extra subwoofer out. It's also over priced (i did buy it when it was released).
