Best budget home theater receiver

Experts and users are pleased with the performance but floored by the value of the Onkyo TX-SR308. Things sound pretty good with music, and excellent with movie sound tracks. Even those reviewers with quibbles say that you'll need to spend a bit more...

Onkyo TX-SR308 review

Working to a tight budget? The Onkyo TX-SR308 will do a perfectly good job

Price ; three HDMI 1.4 inputs ; clear, simple interface ; controlled, inoffensive sound

Sounds too sedate ; lacks drive and punch

For the money the ’SR308 does a good job. It just lacks that streak of brilliance required from a five-star product

Not Great

The HDMI out on the receiver died after about 6 months. The waranty is worthless unless you keep the original box and pay a ton to ship it back. The service centers Onkyo listed on their site was false.

great deal

Very good deal for the price, I have owned ONKYO speakers for years and always performed well, and they go nicely with the reciever. Sound from the reciever is great

the how to set the Dolby 5.1 , speaker ranges, and loudness for each speaker was kind of difficult to figure out. Make sure that the surround speakers are on speaker A then you can find all the settings. I had A and B on together and the setting...

Great unit

There is a bug in the Win 7 WMC. When using HDMI sound with 5.1, WMC will show this error: ""Video Error: Files needed to display video are not installed or are not working correctly. Restart Windows Media Center or restart the computer"" To fix this,...

Nice unit. HDMI 1.4 works fine. Able to attach CD to TV/CD input. Dolby HD and DTS HD MA works fine. Auto detects when attached to my PC running Win 7 x64 with 5.1 sound. Auto lip sync

Would buy again

With 10" mains an 10" 100W sub the sound is amazing! Put in the speaker distances and away we go. My sub is by me next to the couch but sounds like its next to the mains when the distances are set up. Definitely recommend for the budget minded, like me.

Sounds Great! On-screen menus (with HDMI) make set up a breeze

No mic for auto setup. I knew it when I bought it, so no biggie

This receiver is amazing. I hooked it up to a Polk Audio 5.1 ch/rm6750. I gotta say, the sound that comes out is unbelievable. It's got plenty of hookups, input and output, has good HDMI in/out, (there's no audio/video sync problems), and it doesn't...
