Onkyo TX-SR507 review

As entry-level machines go the TX-SR507 is inoffensive enough, but we've come to expect better from Onkyo

Nice to use ; doesn't sound overly aggressive

Lacks dynamism, grunt and real sonic impact ; too safe-sounding

An inoffensive entry-level machine, but sonically uninspiring by Onkyo standards

Onkyo TX-SR506 review

Solid build and smart if clinical design ; muscular, punchy performance ; plenty of weight when required ; decent with music

No HD audio decoding ; lacks a little definition and detail compared to the best

Still a decent contender but it's slightly off the pace of class-leader standards on audio and features

Worked for about a month

It is just another cheap piece of electronics made in China. I am disappointed with the receiver and will not buy another Onkyo.

The HDMI switching worked much better with my HTPC than the pass through HDMI on my old unit. Plenty of inputs and outputs. The customer support representatives were friendly, knowledgeable, and did not sound like they were reading from a script

It gets very hot. The auto speaker configuration feature failed. Does not sound as powerful as its specifications. The component video went out after about a month. I called Onkyo support and was on hold for 20 minutes. They had me hard reset the unit...

Inexpensive upgrade

The auto speaker setup worked great and for the first time in 7 years I am actually getting the kind of separation and 3D audio effects HT is supposed to have.

Price - HDMI - Auto speaker setup. Got this for $280 to upgrade an old Sony HT system to get HDMI support. Quick easy setup and now I have ONE remote to control my 52" Samsung LCD, Samsung BDP-1600, HTPC and Comcast cable box

Haven't run into any as yet

ONKYO 5.1-Channel Black Home Theater Receiver TX-SR507

Great for the price. Have a pair of Klipsch B-2's and Dayton 10" sub (just a 2.1 setup) wired to the unit and it sounds spectacular

2nd Onkyo - great brand for receivers

This is my 2nd Onkyo receiver. Bought first one in 2000 and it still works like a champ, just doesn't have HDMI connections. I got a new BP and LCD and could still get audio pass through from TV to receiver, but I just couldn't resist getting HDMI...

Slightly lighter/smaller than my previous Onkyo receiver ; All around an excellent brand

Great

You can get an HDMI auto switch to solve the above issue.

Superb sound quality for the price. HDMI is great

HDMI capability is great however, it cannot operate as a dumb hub. In other words the unit must be turned on for video to pass to the monitor. Small price but worth considering if you have a cable box and don't want to use the surround system all the time

Display poor

Seems like less surround than my previous unit- yes, crisper but less like I am immersed in the scene. Tried all different tweaks with the sound/output. Used the Audessey auto setup too. Looks like all the Onkyos may have the same display qualities....

Strong crisp sound

Display only shows minimal info via text or graphics. Text is smaller than my older JVC and only "dots" for type of signal, etc. Older JVC had an actual display of type of signal being recd and output so you could easily see if just stereo or actual 5.1
