Specification and design impressive apart from the remote), but perhaps lacking substance at this price point?

Pioneer A-A9

It has been a while since Pioneer last made serious two-channel audio components, and it's perhaps a reflection of how crowded things have got in the AV market that it has decided to have another stab at it now

High resolve and decent power levels for the money, Well equipped and connected, Looks good

Display can't be left on in direct mode

The A-A9 takes on the mantle of the classic A400 with ease. It isn't quite as cuddly, but it's very resolute and revealing for the price

You also get a motorised Alps volume control that should help the sound and a 'direct' setting which has the same aim but which defeats the backlighting on the display so that the numerical volume indication can't be seen. Unfortunately the source name...

Nicely sculpted front panel, great timing and spaciousness along with a clean detailed and dynamic sound

The Pioneer A-A 9 is simply one of the best amps Pioneer has ever made. Please be aware that its successor, the A-A 9 MK 2 - is just about the contrary, the example I had tried sounded way to soft and uninspiring.
