Pioneer VSX-1018AH review

A solidly competitive, capable multichannel receiver that will decode all available forms of surround audio from your disc collection

Forthcoming sound ; dynamically strong ; iPod connectivity and full control

Not as refined or natural-sounding as class-leaders ; no upscaling ; only two HDMI inputs

Despite its demotion to four-star status, the Pioneer still has an attractive sonic character and some neat features

We attempted to test the VSX-1018AH's ability to convert analog 1080i signals over component to 1080p over HDMI, but the VSX-1018AH lacks this capability. The VSX-1018AH also does not scale incoming HDMI video signals, and instead passes them perfectly...

HDMI Inputs fail

Good system, when it works

After 2 years, one of the HDMI inputs ceased to work (passed audio, but not video signal) . Six months later, a second HDMI input failed (passed nothing), leaving me only one working HDMI input. I'm not impressed. Will buy another brand to replace it

Pioneer Rocks!

I love Pioneer equipment, it's all I buy for my electronics. High quality in every respect. HD audio is amazing. I thought my sub thumped before on my previous Pioneer receiver...now there are walls shaking in my house that never did before!

To be used for decades.

You can argue that this one or that one might have better specs. It is true, but also true is that on this level of equipment difference you can notice only in the audio lab. Don't argue or blame yourself that Denon, Marantz or Yamaha will sound...

Great sound. Very easy to setup and very easy to use. Works perfect with Pioneer BD player

Great video scaling

Turn off DDC/CI on your monitor if you have problems with video. I do not have a supply of fiber optic cable for audio yet. My HP w2207 will not use the 1080p output but will use the 1080i, disappointed.

The video inputs are not seperate from each other. A user can only use composite or component. In other words, 4 analog inputs and 3 hdmi inputs. Bad: Satellite receiver 1, satellite receiver 2, dvd, vcr, laserdisc, computer. Thought I was getting 7...
