Sony STR-DN840 review

The Sony STR-DN840 ($420 street) is by far the best AV receiver value of 2013. It starts with its outstanding wireless features, serving up built-in Wi-Fi, AirPlay, and Bluetooth, which no other receiver at this price can match. That allows Sony to...

Sony STR-DN840

A talented, well-equipped amp – just make sure it's a sonic match for the rest of your system

Precise, agile sound with plenty of energy ; Plenty of connections and features

Sounds thin, especially at higher volumes

The Sony STR-DN840 is a very good home cinema amp, even if it doesn’t quite display the all-round strength of its bigger sibling.

It is a great product. Sounds great.

The product is great. I really like it a lot. It sounds awesome. The only complaint is (would have been a deal breaker for me) you cannot listen to music with only the L and R plus the subs. You can only choose to listen with the L and R. If you want...

Everything about it is awesome.

No stereo mode. Meaning if you want to listen to music only with your L and R + subs it wont do it. You can only have ALL speakers playing to hear sub

"Great value receiver"

Bought mine about a year ago, performance has been nearly flawless. Only issue is AirPlay cuts out occasionally - but this is mostly due to bandwidth issues in the evening.

Bluetooth & Wifi are super easy to use. Sound quality and volume are outstanding

Menus a little dated

"Poor build quality, sound & connections. Keep receipt"

Physically unplug and re-plug it in to get it to work each time. Everything is new. Put in all new New Direct TV New Samsung 3D F8500 TV New Sony Blu-Ray which is awful also. Nope, still no work. Audio guy, Direct TV guy could not figure it out. Sony...

Cheap price and looked nice. If it had worked as promoted it would have been great.

Doesn't work, had video but no sound when used for anything other than radio. Remote really cheap.

"Let's Get Ready To Ruuuuumble!"

I had an older Panasonic home theater. It was decent quality, but several years old and had a passive subwoofer. I decided it was time to replace it, and did so with Sony's STR-DN840 receiver. I was drawn to the power. For me, along with the obvious...
