Sony STR-DN1000 review: Sony STR-DN1000

Sony STR-DN1000

Solid sound quality for the price; relatively inexpensive given the feature set; four HDMI inputs; basic graphical user interface; onboard Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding; Sirius-ready; automatic speaker calibration.

Poor image quality on upconverted analog sources; no multichannel analog input; no traditional second zone functionality, although S-Air is supported.

The Sony STR-DN1000 offers solid sound and basic AV receiver features at a bargain price, but it's not nearly as good as last year's STR-DG920.

Sony STR-DN1000 A/V Receiver

The process of getting music into, and out of, an A/V receiver is changing. An increasing number of receivers come with Ethernet jacks to pull music out of a network-connected PC. Against this background, Sony—thinking for itself, as always—has built a...

Review Of The Sony STR-DN1000

The new DN1000 launched by Sony is the follow up to last years STR-DG920. having quite good designed and equipped features similar to the DG920, let's find out it if the DN1000 is able to make its mark.Talking about design, you have to realize that...

Deadly sound quality; superb feature set; 4 HDMI ports; good user interface; built in Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoder; automatic speaker calibration; Sirius satellite radio ready  good feature to price ratio

Poor image quality on converted analog formats; multi-channel analog input is absent

The STR DN1000 has done exceptionally well in the audio department, but the up scaled videos were lack lustre. The feature set is good and is more than enough to keep you busy for a long time. For a price range of $322.92 – $499.99, the DN1000 does not...

Sony STR-DN1000 Home Theater Receiver Reviewed

With the introduction of the STR-DN1000, it finally feels like Sony's beginning to really hit their stride." He added, "For just under $500 retail, this is one serious receiver that is as big on performance as it is on style. It can do just about...

For just under $500 retail, the Sony STR-DN1000 is one serious receiver that is as big on performance as it is on style ; The STR-DN1000 can do just about everything a modern home theater calls for and more in a way that is easy to set up, use and live...

I'm sure the STR-DN1000's lack of full 1080p up-conversion is going to cause some people grief. However, keep in mind the asking price and what you plan on connecting to the STR-DN1000. If all your sources are HD, especially native 1080p, then what do...

The Sony STR-DN1000 may just be one of my favorite receivers for around $500. What can I say? It hits all the right notes for me, it looks good, it's affordable and sounds better than you'd expect a sub-thousand-dollar receiver to sound. Sure, it's...

worst customer service ever

in summery I will never buy another piece of home theater equipment from Sony. Their repair service and Quality Assurance Quality Control department needs some serious work.

Was nice while it worked

Repair service is horrible. I took it to an approved local repair shop where they diagnosed the problem. I then waited for a back ordered board for the next three months. Sony's idea of making it better was to send me a broken replacement that wouldn't...

not all that it is cracked up to be

If you want to bi-amp, do not buy Sony, if you want to someday stretch out, buy a unit with pre outs for external amps, say either a Onk or Den model would be worth the extra pennies. My unit shuts down if bi-amped, took it for repair once, and now am...

Matches good with other Sony products, upconverting feature, manual set up feauture

does not deliver 110 x 7, see new model, the 1010, whereas now delivers only 110wx110w, on home website

Awesome Receiver

New Egg had the best price, I shopped around for a while and New Egg once again one the price battle. And with the service and shipping time it really hard to consider going elsewhere.

This unit can do a lot that the higher more expensive models do and more. I love everything about it and it's fairly simple to setup and get work for an average system

Gui slow like others have stated, but not work deducting an egg. And newer models are coming out with more HDMI inputs. A week after I got this unit New Egg ran a deal on a little bit better model, but for more money. But for the price you can't beat it
