Yamaha HTR-6160 review: Yamaha HTR-6160

Yamaha HTR-6160

Excellent sound quality; onboard Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding; Sirius- and XM-ready; control iPod onscreen using USB port; two switched AC outlets.

Only two HDMI inputs, while competing models offers offer three or more; analog upconversion limited to 480p; poor upconversion quality; autosetup gave us an inaccurate warning; frustrating rear panel layout.

The Yamaha HTR-6160 sounds great, but it's tough to recommend with its paltry HDMI connectivity, poor upconversion quality, and other design quirks.

All and all, A fantastic value and a great sound. P.S. its hard not to laugh during the YPAO when you have a crystal clear bloop bloop bloop coming out of your speakers around the room. It is a funny sound.

Sounds great, lots of variability, and a decent price. I have this receiver paired with an older Bose Acoustimass 6 set and 2 Mint Vintage Infinity Qe speakers as rear surround to add more presence to the mid/low from the back. Fairly intuitive to get...

The manual, while broad in range and scope, isn't the easiest thing to work with. The remote can control all of my components, but it isn't the most user friendly device. Eventually I will be able to control the remote in the dark, but currently, I...

Yamaha HTR-6160BL

This replaced a Sony STR-DB1070 that I was very fond of, but could no longer keep up with video technology. I consider this one of the best purchases I've ever made in home audio and I don't see me replacing this for a very long time.

This is an incredibly advanced receiver with a feature set I never expected to find at this price. Video upscaling across inputs and 1080P support is just the start. This unit also allows customization of the outputs to allow for "presence" speakers to...

None.. nada...zip!
