Yamaha R-S700 Stereo Receiver First Look

Glancing at the rear panel, we see a lot that is familiar and a few surprises. First we have the expected five-way binding posts. In this case, there are two sets, for an A and B set of speakers which can be selected individually or played together....

The US version of Yamaha's R-S700 has some definite improvements over the UK version. Most notably is included Zone 2 support with a dedicated remote. With high quality components, 100 watts per channel, Pure and CD Direct modes, and a host of...

Yamaha R-S700 Stereo Receiver

5.1, 7.1, 9.2... even 11.2 and beyond. Yes, I’m talking about the numbers of channels available in multi-channel home theater systems. It seems to be getting out of control, don’t you think? Well, Yamaha may have the prescription for your...

The Yamaha R-S700 is a welcome addition to Yamaha’s lineup of receivers. It’s also a refreshing change of pace from the typical multi-channel AV Receiver. Many multi-channel units, despite having a cost of well over $1,000, do not do justice to music....

Very clean Analog receiver

The next step up in the Yamaha line is probably the AS-1000 (more than twice the price) and the AS-2000 which provides XLR input for about 4x the price. Maybe someday!

I use this receiver for CD and SACD playback from an Oppo BDP-95 through Yamaha NS-555 floor standers and a Polk PSW-505 sub. The key features are the CD-Direct amp mode and the subwoofer out for my setup. I use mid-range (Blue jeans LC-1) RCA cables...

No digital inputs, no network, therefore no app support. So use a source with a good DAC, network support, remote app support instead.

Yamaha R-S700

If you're considering this item, most likely you're looking for a solid stereo receiver with 1980s throw back decor. The primary usage of this receiver is to play back my tunes from an iPOD and also from a laptop, both of which are connected via an...

If you're committed to listening to music in good "old-fashioned analog stereo," this receiver will serve you well. Solidly built and quite surprised of how heavy it is for just 2-channel stereo. Very musical and dynamic with sufficient 100-wpc...

Not convinced that the $600 MSRP and $500 selling price is justified for pure bred ANALOG 100-wpc STEREO. IMO, it would be a steal for less than $350. Was expecting the shipment to be double-boxed, but it wasn't and the overall condition of the box...

Perfect for 901s

I recently acquired Bose 901 speakers and only a handful of receivers can accommodate them in a reasonable price range. Yamaha makes a fine product as this is my second Yamaha receiver over a span of 30 years.

Easy To Set Up ; Good Power Output ; Great Sound Quality

Good Receiver

Good replacement but not quite producing the same bass(and loudness) of my old broken Sansui receiver. Has similar good sound quality as my former Panasonic receiver.
