Yamaha RX-A820 review

Occupying the lowest rung of Yamaha's elite 'Aventage' range, the RX-A820 is a versatile beast with DSPs galore (an area where Yamaha has a rich history), a claimed 7 x 130W of amplification at your disposal and no fewer than eight HDMI ports. With its...

Nuanced, open, movie performance; worthwhile DSP modes; neat design; decent network audio functionality

A little bass-shy in stereo mode; struggles at high listening levels; Wi-Fi requires a dongle

Good sound but not nearly as powerful as older Yamaha receivers. Transformer started buzzing at 3 years usage

The warranty I bought through Newegg by Service Net processed the buzzing stereo back and had a full refund via Newegg gift card back to me within 2 days of the claim. I did ship it to Service Net quickly, though. Delayed return might get slower...

The sound is very good for home theater and has acceptable power for music but really only enough power for some of my music in stereo mode, IMHO. Tons of features; way more than I could figure out and use regularly. YPAO worked great for my room but...

Power a bit lacking. Power supply transformer started buzzing pretty loud at about 3 years. There are a lot of failures in all stereo brands now (not just Onkyo!) but buzzing doesn't seem like a common failure mode for Yamaha so I only knocked it down...

Shell Shocker Nirvana

Had been in the market as a loyal newegg customer for a dual zone airplay capable receiver for listening to music. Had priced out sonos, but multizone gets pricey quick with that. Already have a Yamaha v373 receiver and polk rm6750 5.1 speakers and...

Awesome HT Receiver

Actually I bought this primarily as the INTERFACE between all my new and legacy Media Streamers, NAS's, DVD's, DVR's etc and a 60" Pana Plasma. Basically NO TV has all the hookups I need. This Yamaha comes as close as anything out there. I could...

8 HDMI's in 2 Out Many other connection options including mixing and matching inputs/outputs Zone's didn't appeal at first but I've grown to like it Infinitely configurable...almost too much but really can there ever be too many options Very well...

Not really the Power House Sound System I had anticipate but more than adequate for my Co-op situation.

All around excellence

I bought this receiver on sale from Newegg, the deal was too good to pass up. I have been researching receivers for 3 years now and went from Onkyo (too many problems) to Denon (very good but 2013 quality went down), then finally to Yamaha's. the only...

No video airplay.

Better Than Advertised

This AVR is paired with 1 x Kilpsch Synergy C-10 Center Channel Speaker 2 x Kilpsch KB-15 (Front left & right) 2 x Kilpsch Synergy S-10 (Rear left & right) 1 x Yamaha powered sub-woofer All I can say is WOOOOW!! :-)

Sleek, clean, classic Yamaha look. Enhances normal TV sound to clear distinct words so you are not having to crank the audio to understand what people are saying. Movies (Blu-rays) are even better. The DTS-HD and TrueHD are as good or better than going...

I'm an audiophile and I have tried to find something not to like. Sorry, can't find anything so far.

Great Reciever

Do not use YPAO. Just set it up manually, you will be a lot happier. If you do make sure you go into the manager and set your speakers to small (not large) otherwise it will turn off the sub.

Lots of features very crisp sound, I would definitely buy it again. I have hooked this to polk floor speakers and a klipsch woofer and I love it. This is my first not out of the box set up and it was a breeze. It has a very nice user interface.

I wish it had HD radio, the next model up has it but it costs a lot more.

Static in Speakers

It attempts to do what it's designed to do

No matter what I do I'm still getting quite a bit of static/crackling in the front left speaker only (Polk Monitor 70 - II). It doesn't matter which speaker/cable combination I use. I even bought one of Monster's power surge/clean power strips which...

Excellent AVR

When I first ran the YPAO I used the 8 point measurement and it sounded awful. The center channel was muffled to the point where we couldn't even understand basic dialogue. My LAVA 12 sub barely had any output. I called Yamaha support at 2a.m. and the...

Excellent sound quality. Easy to set up. Great features, especially after the firmware update that came out a few days ago, adding Pandora, Sirius/XM, etc. I have it in a large entertainment center and it is cool to the touch. The parametric EQ is...

My Onkyo NR605 HDMI board went out after 4 years so I needed an update. When I first set up the Yammy, it sounded really terrible and my family thought I had made a big blunder. You have to spend some time getting the right settings but it is well...
